If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Thanks for this link! I started poking through te list and there was a Great Horned that flew into a window and smacked it's head really bad. The rescue center made numerous posts and in one, linked to a site that makes safety tape for windows..

The claim is that a billion birds fly into windos every year and too many get killed. The safety tape is called Feather Friendly and it's cool that people are working to save birds this way.. I witnessed an Indigo Bunting kill itself flying into a window and it was heartbreaking to see such a beautiful animal lose it's life that way. :(

Definitely. I had a Hawk attempt to hunt my Dachshund that was sleeping by the front window and well... it's surprising how heavy Hawks are.

It's really sad to consider the hazards our lifestyles pose to animals. Windows, cars, soccer nets, decorations, dirty bird feeders and baths, loose pets, and so much more.

Over 90 percent of wildlife rehab animals are in due to human related causes, not from things just going on out in nature. Anything we can do to mitigate our potential damage to wildlife is so immensely helpful!
