There are better ways of lowering accidents than a police state. For example narrower roads.

Speed cameras are in use around the world, and personally I think are good solution: drive dangerously and you get fined. What's the problem?
I do like Icelands solution though: every month, there's $10,000 lottery prize that you get entered into if a camera catches your car doing the speed limit or below. If you drive above the limit, you get taken out of the lottery that month. There's only fines if you drive more than 5mph over the limit. Something like that.
Because fines are only punishments for poor people.
True. So lets change it from a flat fee to 10% of your monthly income
10% of 100 is a lot bigger of an impact than 10% of 1,000,000. If I have 1000$ in my bank account and I get fined 100$ that could be the difference between me making rent or not for that month. If I have $1M and get fined 100K, thats the difference of if I can buy a bigger yacht that year
What’s the problem?
In America generally we have the right to confront the witnesses against us as part of due process before the government deprives us of life, liberty, or property. Traffic cameras that issue fines are often unconstitutional for this reason. You can't cross-examine a speed camera in court. They make mistakes and it's very, very hard to hold them accountable when they do, so a lot of places don't allow them.
Yeah there needs to be extreme fines for manufacturers if it's found they're wrongly issuing tickets. The problem here isn't the cameras, it's the law. You should definitely have the right to request the camera be tested
Planting trees and posts by the roads also helps.

Even better: roundabouts. They fucking work, even if people have to learn how to use them for a bit.
