Nov. 17, 2023

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve CB SB D
  • Blade: UK Tech Statum
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Neon Sun - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Neon Sun - Aftershave

Ok shave. My lather sucked to much water but lazy enough to just deal with it.

November 17, 2023

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Tuxedo Synthetic
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
  • Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (7)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Ozark Mountain - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman Musk - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Liniment

I shaved super fast today because I woke up a little later than I thought I would. I'm working today so this morning my wife said I could go back to bed and she'll handle the kid, and I didn't set an alarm.

Anyway, I didn't have to hurry, but it makes my commute easier if I have plenty of time. I managed to wake up, shower and shave in 20 minutes. I did 2 passes and my lather did not get the attention it deserved, but Stirling still did great.

Not a very close shave, but comfortable and definitely good enough.

That was a perfect opportunity for @sgrdddy's slurry lather.

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 9 months ago

Looking back, that's sort of what I did!

Love the Ozark ❤️

Nov 17, 2023 - Lilac and Jasmine

  • Brush: Dogclaration Purple Hybrid 28mm B7 Knot
  • Razor: Karve Shaving Co. Overlander
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [1]
  • Lather: MacDuffs Soap Company - Lilacs in Bloom - Soap
  • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Lycanthropy - Aftershave (Alcohol Free)
  • Fragrance: Chatillon Lux - Sunrise on LaSalle - Eau de Toilette

I had another shave planned, but this setup just fit the mood I was in. While lilac might be front and center, it was the jasmine working in the background that tied it all together.

First impression of the Overlander is very positive. I'm looking forward to more shaves with it.

Rating: 4/5

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 9 months ago

That's a very cool looking Overlander. I have one in brass and have liked all of my shaves with it.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 9 months ago

I really like the looks of aluminium Karves. Beautiful 😍

  • Razor: Merkur (?) NOS Bakelite Slant
  • Blade: Shark Super Chrome
  • Brush: Semogue TSN LE 2012
  • Pre-Shave: Proraso Pre Shave Cream
  • Lather: Mike’s Natural Soaps Hungarian Lavender
  • Aftershave: Barber No3 Marmara
  • Additional Care: Alum Block

A fine Friday shave wraps up the work week.

Fougère Royale Friday

  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm knot with 50 mm loft)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 14 (8/8", extra hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Fern
  • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co Varen
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming/Noble Otter Cerberus Fougère

A bit of a Fougère bomb this morning. Fern and Varen get along well, and that's a good thing because both of these are bold. I'll give them some time to calm down and put on Cerberus Fougère before heading out.

As a reminder not to get complacent, the Frio 14 nicked my earlobe 🤦. More like a nibble.

Thanks!

It's pretty damn excellent ☺️

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

As a reminder not to get complacent

One of the things I love about straight razor shaving is that you must be mindful. I haven't nicked myself yet, but I have raised a thin pink line where the razor would have cut me had I used little more pressure.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

You haven't nicked yourself ever? In almost 400 open blade shaves?

I'm impressed!

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

I meant this month. However, I very rarely nick myself and I can't remember a nick that did not close during my cold water rinse. Recall that while you can do a slurry lather shave in 5 minutes, it takes me 6½. I'm quite deliberate with the edge and try to never rush it.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

Ah, that makes sense 😅

I'm quite deliberate with the edge and try to never rush it.

I never rush it 95% of the time, that's it 😄

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

I never rush it 95% of the time

And, I suspect that you have far more distractions than I do :)

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

I don't know, it seems to me that you like to stay busy, too 😉

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
  • Razor: Gillette Slim Adjustable H3 (1962, 3rd quarter)
  • Blade: Lord Super Chrome (2)
  • Lather: Stirling – Sharp Dressed Man - Shave Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling – Sharp Dressed Man - Post Shave Balm

I keep thinking I'm done using Sharp Dressed Man for the season (I think of it as a warm weather scent and the weather is now turning cold). But here we are, with another unseasonably warm day and thus another Sharp Dressed Man day as well. The ring of death has begun to appear, but since I won't be using it much more this year it'll be around for a while longer still.

A very close shave today and I had a "hit" in a couple of spots from the aftershave so I guess I was a bit heavy handed with my pressure. A great shave otherwise. I don't think that Alive isn't marketed as a fougère, but it smells like one to me. A great way to start the day.

💚💚 Weinis Evening 💚💚

  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm knot with 50 mm loft)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 14 (8/8", extra hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Chatillon Lux / Declaration Grooming Weinstrasse
  • Aftershave: Chatillon Lux / Declaration Grooming Weinstrasse
  • Fragrance: Chatillon Lux / Declaration Grooming Weinstrasse

The freshest, greenest of Fougère Friday evening shaves. The big Frio 14 has been an absolute pleasure to use in these last 8 shaves, but I'll now switch to a Valet Autostrop which arrived by mail today (inspired by u/Marquis90 and his concept of Thé *No(ir et vanille)V(alet Autostrop)ember, a.k.a. the world's most capillotracted retronym).

Fougère Friday ++;

SOTD 17.11.2023

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: RazoRock Gamechanger 0.84 OC
  • Blade: Voskhod
  • Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Unscented
  • Post Shave: Thayer's Aloe Vera toner; Lavera Mikrosilber Creme

A shave to look good for tomorrow. I also shaved my head with the Headblade S4.

1 pass plus cleanups. I currently rock a Van Dyke beard again and still don't feel the violent urge to knock it down to just the moustache again... Strange, but we'll see.

I hope I'll make a good first impression tomorrow. Have a nice Friday evening (or afternoon, depending on your time zone) 👍🏻

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Good luck with your trial with day tomorrow, you got this!

And can you buy Thayer's in Germany?

[-] DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

I got the Thayer's toner from amazon - back when they still accepted my bank transfer and didn't start trying to push everyone to credit cards 🙄

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

I see, thanks! I also avoid Amazon.

[-] DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

I mostly use them for Prime Video/streaming. But everything else is awful - they treat their delivery service employees like shit so they only attract really low quality workers who often damage parcels. All in all, it's way better to support small business owners or local shops 👍🏻

November 17, 2023 - Faena Friday

  • Brush: Muninn Woodworks w/AP Shave Co 24mm Titanium Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Super Speed Y4
  • Blade: My-Blades (5)
  • Lather: Faena - Taurus - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Monarch - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Rose - Toner

The Faena soap base has its own feel. I don't think I have another soap like it. Very luxurious in its own way. I was under the impression that the Super Speed was a mild razor but my shave says otherwise. I had an ultra close shave this evening. This was DS-BBS, but I'm looking for a barely BBS level of closeness. It was comfortable, though. No nicks or irritation

November 18, 2023

  • Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
  • Blade: Cien Men 2-Blade Cart (6)
  • Lather: Chatillon Lux/Storybook Soap Works - La Forêt de Liguist - Soap
  • Post Shave: allMan - Fearless - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Bulldog - Original Moisturizer
  • Fragrance: Musgo Real - EdC

Luxury second shave, since this morning I only did 2 passes.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

Second luxury shaves++

I don't have La Forêt de Liguest, but the modified version with extra chocolate, and it's really nice

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 9 months ago

Which one is that? The only CL event I have with chocolate is Sni Mato.
