The obvious comparison is Napoleon Dynamite since it has Jon Heder in it and a cast of quirky characters. The trailer makes it look at least moderately amusing. Tho apparently this movie went for a couple years without a distributor, after showing at a film festival a couple years back. And it looks like now it's only playing at one theater in LA? JustWatch says it's streaming on Amazon and Plex. Doesn't seem to be legally available outside the US. Anyway this movie is obviously bombing as a quirky indy, the only question is does it have what it takes to be a cult B-movie.
"Sometimes the crazy thing and the right thing are the same thing." Foggy Bottom Pictures has revealed a new official trailer for their kooky comedy film titled Tapawingo made by director Dylan K. Narang. After sitting on hold for a few years, this funky indie comedy is finally being released on VOD this December. It premiered at the 2023 Virginia & Dances With Films Festivals but was never released until now. Tapawingo stars Jon Heder, best known as Napoleon Dynamite, channeling that same quirkiness for this character. An oddball becomes the bodyguard for a misfit teenager and finds himself in the crosshairs of the town's family of bullies. Heder plays Nate – when he discovers Oswalt is the subject of relentless bullying at school, he assembles a team of misfits forming an unconventional security detail. The cast includes Jay Pichardo, Kim Matula, Sawyer Williams, George Psarras, Paul Psarras, Amanda Bearse, Chad Dukes, John Ratzenberger, along with Gina Gershon and Billy Zane.
