I remember back like 20 years ago it snowed on Christmas day in Tasmania. Snow up on mountains or way down south isn't all that unusual, even in summer. I'm astonished it's cold enough to snow there this year though, considering how oppressively hot it's been up here in Brissy.
Hey that's crazy, I have the same memory of ~15 years ago and it snowing on Christmas Day in the Snoy Mountains. The difference then was that there was major bush fires all throughout NSW which was royally messing with the weather.
Have you seen the weather system down in Antartica that's driving those temperatures though? Shouldn't complain as it's keeping my tank topped off but I could do with a few more days of mid 20°+.
Last time I had a Christmas in Tas the mountains were all on fire. Guess it's either one or the other. We're freezing here in Melbourne, I feel like we've had only 6 ~30 degrees days so far.
Almost like there is a reason it's called the snowies.
At 2K above sea level I would expect it to be weird. Mt Springbrook is 1K and you can feel the difference when going from the beach to the Best of All Lookout.
