Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

I'm german, never learned dutch and the only part I couldn't make sense of is "mbt de dwangwet".

That being said, Geert Wilders is a racist cunt and right wing populist.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Knowing only English, I think I got about 25% of that

[–] zout@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Mbt = "met betrekking tot", basically means regarding. Dwangwet translates to Zwangsgesetz in German.

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, though that doesn't help that much. I don't think we have these kind of laws in Germany (or I have never heard of that, though a quick internet search only shows laws about when police is allowed to force something).

[–] zout@fedia.io 4 points 2 days ago

I had to look it up, but the "dwangwet" is a name the right gave to the "spreidingswet", a law meant to force municipalities to provide shelter to asylum seekers. It's far right framing, they wanted to (and succeeded) block this law from passing. Goal of the block is according to them something aking to "muh freedoms", if you ask me it was meant to force problems with said asylum seekers. These problems didn't materialize, with the ultimate effect of Geert Wilders' PVV party leaving the coalition.

This is a very condensed version of two years of political scheming, so there's a lot more to be said than this.

I got this much:

Wir haben ein seriöses Problem mit den politischen Entwicklungen [???] und ich hoffe, dass dies in den kommenden Tagen gelöst[?] werden kann

So like 85% understandable 😁

I'm a little surprised how much of that knowing Danish allows me to reasonably interpret when reading it. It's just a pity I made this marvelous discovery trying to read something written by fucking Geert Wilders.

It’s Dutch secret bathroom knowledge, when we shitting and reading the labels on the packaging, discovering we understand written Danish.

[–] PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Written Danish is easy, like all Nordics. Spoken though, not a chance.

You are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct!

Most people incorrectly think that Finland is part of Scandinavia. However, Finland is part of the Nordic countries!

Mind. Blown.

And still manages to have a more consistent spelling than English.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I believe that applies to literally every language other than English.

Even French.

EauhKhaits is the best I can do

You can't really have an X here, it would get pronounced. But you can have an H, H is always nice and silent. Unless there's a C before, then it changes how the C is pronounced.

[–] Angelevo@feddit.nl 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Does indeed often sound horrible. Is, however, quite comprehensive.
