I still hate that it's a Switch 2 exclusive, even though I have a Switch 2 from pure chance.
Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I don’t really want a Switch 2 but my love for Fromsoft eclipses my distaste for exclusives
I own a switch 2, partly for work obligations but also was kind of sold on DKB in combination with my mild curiosity for duskbloods, especially after being pleasantly surprised with nightreign.
I do hope they fix their networking stack a bit as match making was definitely the most annoying part of ER: Nightreign.
I can't think of content I'd not like to see posted here, so yea, definitely!
That sounds interesting. I would have thought that it's more of a recent idea and development with them jumping onto the bandwagon of making a life-service PvP-esque game. Gives me a little hope that it's been in development for so long, but I doubt that's gonna change my interest in the game. I've skipped Nightreign entirely too so far and Duskbloods being Switch 2 exclusive only further pushes me away from the game.
What about you?
Nightreign ended up being all the things I didn’t realize I wanted in a Fromsoft game. I’d highly recommend giving it a try at some point! The DLC comes out next week too so I’m sure the player base will spike again.
Is it fun if none of your friends play From Software games and you have to play solo or with randos?
Yeah it’s usually good. Ups and downs of course as is the nature of MP but the fact that there is no chat helps. My friends all moved on so I’ve been only playing with randos and still love it.
How is solo play these days?
It’s totally doable. I even had some success at early depth mode.
They patched it a bit after release to make it more manageable so if you played early versions you will notice a difference.
Not sure it's up my alley. I don't like relying on randoms in online games and soulslikes are more of a respite from hectic sweaty gaming. I fear it might turn sweaty fast if an online component is introduced.
It could also play like a Monster Hunter game which might turn things around for me. How would you compared the two based on vibes and gameplay?
I've only played with a friend and filled with a random, but they've generally been fine to play with. There aren't really ways to be toxic in the game.
I completed all bosses with one character randoms only. Fromsoft randoms are built different and they will carry you.
True, I forgot which genre we're playing here xd
I never did too much Monster Hunter so I can't compare. If you liked any of the other Fromsoft games and/or if you're a fan of Roguelites you'll probably get hooked. It has a lot of Fromsoft and just enough Roguelite. I have plenty of quibbles with it but have a few hundred hours logged so they obviously aren't keeping me from coming back.
I always really enjoyed the co-op in the other Fromsoft titles which obviously this has in spades, without the griefing min/max invasions which is an even bigger bonus for me. 99% of the randos have been great, I mean sometimes you get carried and sometimes you have to carry - but there aren't really a lot of things players can do to ruin your experience.
Once or twice I've had someone appear to intentionally tank the run which is rare but frustrating. And maybe 1 in 15 or 20 runs you'll get someone that's annoying and pushy about where to go. But I'm generally fine with going with the flow even if they're making dumb choices and fortunately that's the best way to handle them. I kind of enjoy the challenge when a Roguelite run goes south anyway. Only other annoyance are leavers which are maybe 1 in 10 runs at most but again, I just see it as an extra challenge to try to finish the run with the one remaining rando or by myself if it comes to that.
In the end, it helps to not be so serious about winning every run but if that's important to you that'd be the only reason I might suggest staying away.
Actually sounds pretty cool ngl. I love soulslikes, duh, and love roguelikes a lot. Just the other day I thought about if a roguelike and a soulslike combined would work well, only to the realise that that exists already lol. Only problem would be money for me right now.
I suspect my PC could underperform a little so I probably wouldn't buy the game there. The only other option would be PS5, but paying for online sucks and I've pretty much moved away from console in favour of PC the past couple months. How's the performance should you play on PC?
It runs on a Steam Deck so it’s not real demanding, Might have to lower the settings a little. It was released on PS4 too to give you an idea.
I’ll check k this one out, nightreign hasn’t clicked for me but I can’t handle the team based gameplay I’d rather game on my own.
Either it's been in development hell, or they're doing their due diligence to make it a huge success.
Not me low key wanting this to be "not great" to cope with the FOMO.
I kid, I kid...
Or do I? (≖⩊≖)
