Backpack Hero is the inventory management roguelike! Collect rare items, organize your bag, and vanquish your foes! It isn't just about what you carry, but how you organize items within your bag! Their placement has huge effects on their power! You can move items to increase their power! There's more to Backpack Hero than just organizing your backpack. You explore ancient dungeons, caves, swamps, and more! Don't get lost! When you aren't putting your life in danger, you will use the resources you have gathered to upgrade your town! By organizing the perfect town, you will restore the world of Orderia and rescue the animals who live there! Your progress in the overworld unlocks new content but it won't give you any unfair advantages on a trip into the dungeons.

Saw that on the Nintendo indie showcase. It looks cool. Is it? Has someone here played it?

I wouldn't say no to a good deckbuilder kind of thing with decent replayability.

I play it on Steam and the items, combos, and repeatable playability were good. I think there were 4-6 characters and each have their own playstyle. Highly recommend.

Well I bought it and did a few runs already, unlocked magic, archery, a few buildings, a second area. And at this point, I agree, it is pretty good.

It clearly has very slay the spire-like mechanics with called enemy attacks and very similar stats and effects, but with the crazy item interactions it plays almost like a puzzle game, and that works very well.

I haven’t played it myself but my boyfriend was very excited about it coming out and he’s been playing it since yesterday on PC.

He’s loving it so far.

I, too, picked it up after posting yesterday, for Switch. I had a blast (started it before bed, boy, was that a mistake)! I was enthralled. I only did one run but it provided a lot of satisfaction along the way. They aren't lying about the inventory management, you'll be looking for ways to max out the benefit of your collective items, based on proximity to each other, to receive the most benefit to your armor/weapons/items. I probably spent a little too much time sorting that stuff throughout the dungeon, but that's the point of the game!

I made it back to town after that first run. Here is what confuses me. Town looks to be another place, that you build up over time, that will also have proximity based bonuses to buildings depending on how you place them. The confusing part is: what happens to the stuff you bring back from your runs (armor/weapons/items)? It appears to me that you might only be supposed to sell it all for town building materials. Like you can't use the stuff on your next run! But that's as far as I got. I did not go on a second run yet.

I bought it and I am really enjoying it. Not sure if you got to that point yet since then, but it seems that yes, most of the stuff you bring back is just for selling and getting town resources.

However, there are lots of "research" quests that may require one item or another. Those unlock new quests and items. So I think that's the main reason for not selling everything every time (probably not worth keeping stashes of stuff if you don't know yet whether you'll need them though).

There are also special items that you need to give to specific characters, but those aren't sellable to begin with.

Ah wonderful! I'm really enjoying it so far. And I have not sold everything right away.
