I'm a beard-haver, but I'm not sure exactly. It's not something I've ever paid attention to.
In general, a few drops will cling to the outside. More would soak its way through gradually, likely spreading out a bit as it works down.
But it also depends on how long the beard is, and what products you've used on it.
I think the biggest difference is that it's harder to wipe away--the moisture tends to soak in and your face feels wet for longer.

Beards are like snowflakes, they're all different. But they're also like onions, because they have layers.
Like, some people have dense relatively waterproof beards where it's a hassle to wash all of it and their face underneath. Others have thin beards where the water still runs against the skin.
It's not gonna be the same for everyone
You make a fair point
I’d describe it as very similar to having the first drops of rain hit the top of your head. After enough time or accumulation, it will start to run, but the hairs catch a few at first. Less so than the top of your head (since the beard is a vertical surface), but the same general feeling.
Practically speaking, I don’t think it’s much of a different experience than tears on a smooth face.
The moustache can suffer a little bit...
