Fediverse vs Disinformation

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Imagine, that you were the intelligence service of a small country dependent on the support and compliance of larger countries to enable you to enact a genocide you had been planning for decades. What would be the best way to achieve that? Extensive Kompromat on influential individuals in positions of influence in media, politics and business might be one way to do that.

This isn’t a new thing ether, the lavender scare was in large part J “Edna” Hoover forcing queer individuals into a strict network of mutual blackmail. One of my grandparents told me several stories regarding the subject, don’t ask what they were doing in Budapest in 1956.

But let’s just say that foreign interests had a vested interest in the Soviets being as brutal as possible in putting down the Hungarian revolution.

Is this Israel backers trying to distance themselves from Epsein's evils, or Epstein supporters trying to distance themselves from Israel's evils?

As far as I’ve seen, Epstein supporters are all pro Israel/genocide. “15 year olds aren’t children” pairs very well with “Palestinian children aren’t people.”

the Epstein/Mossad ties were often labeled by US corporate media as “unfounded” (New York Times, 8/24/25), dismissed as a “conspiracy theory” (New York Times, 7/16/25), or said to have been “largely manufactured by paranoiacs and attention seekers and credulous believers” (New York Times, 9/9/25).

Just the NYT being the NYT. It's as credible on the topic of its favorite fascist apartheid state as the New York ComPost or even the Daily Mail is on anything.

Have the New York Times call anyone close to your actual operations a paranoid conspiracy theorist, use CIA talking points memos to guide your criticism and belittling of them.

Been available since 1996, but it is still a 'conspiracy theory' to point out that the CIA ran a psych war campaign, internally, in the US, via their assets in the media, to discredit anyone not towing the uh, company line on 'the whole Bay of Pigs thing', as Nixon put it.

Noam Chomsky (extremely ironically in this particular context) kinda pointed out that the US mainstream media (back when that term meant something)... was just full of CIA handlers, like, decades ago now?

This is... ironic, because Chomsky himself is in the Epstein files, in case anyone was unaware.

I love this Snopes article, its a critical reading skill test.

It was only in the 1980s that the term "conspiracy theory" began to really have the negative connotations we associate with it today. So the conspiracy theory about the term's origins was likely a reaction to this growing negativity.

Oh ok, it was the 80s when the term took on a negative, insult connotation.

So it is hardly surprising that conspiracy theorists – who blame events on the intentional actions of evil people – retrospectively see the emergence of the term as a deliberate attempt to uphold the official version of the Kennedy assassination.

The CIA calls the ideas of such people 'conspiracy theories', verbatim, in that document!

Are we really quibbling over not having a perfectly syntactically accurate CIA propoganda fucking style guide and tactics manual?

Has the author not heard of how 'MKULTRA' was like, a whole family of related programs... and ... the head of the CIA ordered all those documents destroyed... and the only documents about that that we do have, exist because somebody missed a filing cabinet in 1973, and that one just happened to be found years later, via the Church Committee?

Honeypot for Israel dominance is a much bigger deal than what the "honeypot victims" did. Very longtime evidence has Epstein with ultra high up Israel connections, whether or not he was part of Mossad organizational structure. There's also the matter that there is no legitimate path/trace for him to have had any significant wealth. Renting planeloads of prostitots is not wealth building, and so certainly "agenda financed".

Yep.

He's referred to as a financier or philanthropist in a good deal of like, lifestyles of the rich and famous type profile pieces, over the years...

And no one can figure out where his money actually came from.

Another angle here is this:

To some extent, Mossad literally does (or maybe did) operate as a US directed agency, but a plausibly deniable asset.

They carry out things 'we' want done, but won't sully 'our' name with, when its too dirty, too much collateral damage. We pretend to be moral and scold them from time to time, behind closed doors its all smiles.

Lately, turns out the Israelis are both more brutal and more clever than... well basically the entire upper echelons of US tech/intel/political systems, and they managed to basically flip that equation on its head, they've apparently got kompromat on what, just, anyone who's been in politics in the US for more than 10 years, at this point?

Hell, if you ask something like half of the right wingers in this country right now, they'll tell you they're pretty sure Mossad killed Charlie Kirk, after he told Israeli donors he wouldn't take their money anymore, that he couldn't keep being that pro-Israel.

Besides, Epstein was Ghislaine's accomplice. There's a reason one of those two is still alive. Her dad was a Mossad agent as well as a obese pension thief. I'm not even convinced he drowned when they said. How did they find one body in a vast ocean when they couldn't even find that whole airliner decades later?
