Heya,

I'm very noise sensitive, which is mainly an issue at night when I try to sleep.
I've been told I should get custom-made earplugs, as those over-the-counter don't really do anything for me.

Does anyone have experience with this? As I'm having trouble finding good resources.
I also live in a country without good quality products of just about anything, so I've been thinking of getting like the shape of my ear scanned here, and then sending it to a place in Europe that would create these earplugs for me.

Thanks for any help!

Before shelling out for custom:

Have you tried the kids swimming earplug wax kit? It has these moldable lumps like a soft resin, that you form exactly to fit the ear canal.

Also Galaxy Pro2 ear buds are great, they have a noise cancel feature that works really well. It can used without having to having to have any audio playing

those over-the-counter don’t really do anything for me.

Have you tried the rubber kind? I used a pair of these for a while and they worked great - I also had issues with most earplugs - those foam ones tend to fall out or just sit in a weird position so that sound still gets in.

The tether can be removed from the linked ones - you won't need it, especially if it's just for sleep.

They have a little port you can open that will let some sound in, so you can dampen noise but still hear things like an alarm clock.

...speaking of, sleeping through the alarm did happen a couple times. I ended up cobbling together a custom alarm clock with a wall outlet timer and an obnoxiously bright outdoor floodlight aimed right at my head. When it came time to wake up, I'd get blasted with light - 100% effective, no sound needed. ...not the most peaceful way to wake up though, lol. Nowadays you can get 'sunrise alarm clocks' that do basically the same thing, but with actual gradient transitions in frequency and intensity, so you get complete darkness that phases into that red/orange sunrise color, then continues to phase to full strength white light. I kinda like the 0 to 100 route to instantly jolt me awake, but there are lots of options.

That's reasonable, you'll "just" have to find a manufacturer which sends out to your country of residence. A friend of ours wears custom earplugs at night and is glad she got them. There's simply a massive difference between custom shape and the default bullet or whatever you can get.

Yes. A friend of mine is a semi-professional musician. He got custom earplugs made.

They are expensive, though.

I’m in Canada, so my resources might not apply to you.

For sleeping, my partner has the silicone Loops. (Not sponsored) https://www.loopearplugs.com/products/quiet
