Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-YSK posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-YSK posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

If you are a member, sympathizer or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- The majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.

Rule 11- Posts must actually be true: Disiniformation, trolling, and being misleading will not be tolerated. Repeated or egregious attempts will earn you a ban. This also applies to filing reports: If you continually file false reports YOU WILL BE BANNED! We can see who reports what, and shenanigans will not be tolerated. We are not here to ban people who said something you don't like.

If you file a report, include what specific rule is being violated and how.

Why YSK: Seriously, so many people are shelling out cash for subscriptions when their public library probably offers a ton of these resources for absolutely free. We're talking movies, music, e-books, and legitimate online learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning or Great Courses. It's like a secret cheat code for saving money and leveling up your brain. Check your library's website, you'd be surprised what's included. Why pay when you don't have to? It's kind of a no-brainer.

Wow, just looked at my local one and they have 3D printing/scanning, laser cutters, film scanning, a video editing station, all kinds of stuff

You should also know some libraries don't care if you're local.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Where? Every time I try to apply for one, they want an ID or proof of address

[–] tektite@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 hours ago

The library system in my home state has a "Fee: Non-Resident" option on the application. Last time I visited, I paid next to nothing for a library card that is good for 5 years so I can access a ton of ebooks on Libby that my local libraries don't have.

It's possible times have changed. Iirc Broward County was the goto suggestion but that may be out of date. I haven't ever relied on a library for finding digital media

What does proof of address really mean to a library ? In times of desperation in the past I would enter the library's address and it would work for at l'est a month before getting removed which can be enough time if necessary. Questionable ethics but usage stats do help libraries..

They want a drivers license, lease, or utility bill

[–] johnny_deadeyes@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah! I've got several. Broadens the selection nicely. Also, my local library doesn't have Hoopla, but the larger city in a nearby state does and was very cool about letting me get a card since I live in the boonies.

The only benefit I get from this is reading that you had a good day. That library fucks, 10/10

Your wife hates this one easy trick.

NONLOCAL LIBRARIES LOOKING TO HOOK UP WITH YOUR AUDIOBOOK APPLICATION

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

My library also has a cool collection of board games you can check out.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tools to lend, sewing machines, kricut, 3d printers, museum passes, etc.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

I was gonna mention my library organization others free museum passes, usually up to four tickets to bring children or friends. They even offer tickets to local concerts and shows. My friend and I went to a free showing of the orchestra! Please don't flood the ticket site because there's already a lot of competition for free tickets

You can often also checkout cd's and dvd's.

Completely unrelated but did you know you can rip your own dvd's and cd's to your computer as a backup in case the physical disc gets damaged? The process is quite simple.

Your username is ridiculous

More people need to know about

Benn Jordan

I'm not gonna tell you about him beyond the fact that he's an EDM artist known as The Flashbulb from basically the era of Aphex Twin. And he's still quite relevant in the scene.

He did a video on how much it'd cost you in taxes to have all art for free forever and have artist paid well without 3rd part private companies. And literally every tax paying, private service subscribing human should know and vote accordingly.

I wish somthing like this was in my country

I can get ps5 and switch games from my local library. Wait time can get silly like a year but still free

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Waiting a year for a game that's already out must be like the ultimate gamer edging. Fo free

Mine too! Ps5, switch, and whatever version Xbox is on now. Plus DVDs, even new ones, including TV series. I don't pay for any streaming services anymore. I have access to a couple from my family that still allow sharing, but I honestly rarely even use them. I have jellyfin, thrift store DVDs, and the library.
