This is one of the big ones. It also drives the airstream and has been the reason weather was so stable and predictable for the past few 100 years. Things are going to get crazy out there!!!

We had a Little Ice Age in the past, When the average global temperature is around 0°C

Now, if we look at the chart of average global temperatures based on ice core data...

The little ice age also coincided with, and exacerbated, various crises within feudalism, that eventually led to its collapse, and replacement with a different political -economic system.

Just a little fun fact, unrelated to anything currently ongoing in the world

Oh one of my favorite movies is coming true, too bad it's The Day After Tomorrow. Is all that talk about the Democrats having weather control machines just getting ahead of this?

no no no. it's the Jewish space lasers that did this!

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Gotta admire the ability of the Jewish people to construct innovative lasers in space. I've always had so much respect for that

S'about time. I am sick of 100 degree (F) days while living in Oregon... I can always put more clothes on, but only so much I can take off. /s

yeah... you can keep adding layers if it's too cold, but you can't go less than naked if it's too hot

You have skin, don't you? Don't be a weasel!

Wouldn't Jetstream collapse make the US (especially east coast) warmer and Europe colder?

Most of the US is like southern Europe and northern Africa latitude

[–] Econode@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 day ago

Effrey Jetstream?

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Don't panic, northern Europe will be like Russia. Not politically, just the climate will be similar to Russia's.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Could we reverse this with global warming?

[–] ryven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 2 days ago

I'm not a climate scientist, but this is my understanding: the Earth doesn't heat evenly, because most of the sunlight falls in the tropics. The ocean currents are an important way that heat gets redistributed. If the current collapses, the temperature difference between the equator and the high latitudes will increase, because heat will travel more slowly. Trying to fix this by adding more greenhouse gases would result in the equatorial regions becoming uninhabitable before it thawed out Europe—kind of like how if you microwave a Hot Pocket and it's heating unevenly, you can't fix it by microwaving it more, that just makes the already-hot parts scorching.

YES!

For about 4 hours. And then we're good and truly fucked.lol

At least the parts of Europe that rely on it for warmth and to moderate the polar cold.

Upside, if you drive more diesel trucks there won't be an polar cold! One problem solved. Whew!

[–] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I knew we were gonna get an ice age.

[–] TheMadCodger@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago

We're technically still in an ice age.

[–] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The witcher's only season is not that long and finished airing long ago. You have time
