I've seen people report the prices were 70/50, and i'm wondering if the immediate hostility cause them to knock it down 10 dollars each before I could get to steam to see it.

Whats your guys opinion on this? I think the prices are ludicrously stupid and detatched from reality.

It's the same fucking game
It's worth £10 with all DLC, max
Back in my day you never paid over £20 for a refreshed decade-old game.
Fuck the corps. Pirate it

Honestly shit like this is making it highly unlikely I'll buy another Bethesda game.

and I actually mean it. Its not one of those situation like where you see 99.999% of gamers cry and whine about something, swear they'll never support the company again.. then go pre-order the most expensive edition of their next game. I actually vote with my wallet.

Same. I was a fan of Bethesda and bought each Fallout and Elder Scrolls, until Fallout 76. That game was an interesting concept but so prone to abuse, and it was abused heavily with mtx.

Looking at their list of releases, I loved the games that weren't actually made by them. Quake Live has a special spot in my heart, I used to log in on school computers to play it aha. Doom and Wolfenstein isn't even their creation. But Bethesda just seem like they minmax their profit. Minimal work for sky-high prices.

I would love to pay the actual developers of the games they publish.

But does it come with a non-canvas, canvas bag?

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

no, but it does come with unhealthy mold exposure for only the low low additional cost of 9.99!

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Nice. I hope mine is black mold! Gotta collect all 5.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

For a 10 year old game that most people who care, have had for 10 years? Yeah they're not going to sell much at those prices.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'd wager a lot of new people are getting into Fallout 4 thanks to the Fallout TV show. Its probably them they are trying to screw over.

I just hope that it doesnt become a requirement of mods..

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Yeah but they've had a year to buy the whole thing for like $8

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Good thing I already bought it ten years ago.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 days ago

The only memory I have of Fallout 4 is it repeatedly crashing and being generally unplayable.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So I am currently seeing:

Base game is $19.99 GOTY edition is $39.99 (base game + 6 DLC's) Anniversary is $59.99 (base game + 6 DLC's + 150 Creation Club mods)

Technically the anniversary edition ALSO includes the Season Pass, but that's completely valueless as far as I can tell.

Are the Creation Club additions worth $20? Not to me.

I am more familiar with Skyrim, where the Creation Club is the only way to get mods on console. For that reason, I could see the argument for buying it on consoles, but on PC it made less sense. I don't have Fallout 4 on any console, but assuming it's the same it makes sense. While it doesn't make sense to buy it on PC, there's also no reason whatsoever for Bethesda NOT to release it. And they can slap some discounts on it to make it more reasonable for the regular Steam sales.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

anniversary should have just been an update to the base game. none of this anniversary edition/upgrade shit. games 10 fuckin years old, if someone still doesnt have the DLC just give it to them at this point. no ones paying full price for them anyway, and they regularly go on sale for 1-2 bucks.. which isnt gonna be bringing in a lot of money at this point.

and they could still have the paid mods like they do now, in a seperate package you can buy for 20 bucks.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

anniversary should

I don't think they were obligated to do anything at all. Especially not for free. I didn't buy Fallout 4 when it was on sale back in 2017 thinking to myself "Well, this game isn't worth it right now but I bet there's gonna be a real good 10 year anniversary update in 2025 that will make it worth it!". I expect games to be complete when I buy them, and that goes BOTH ways.

The most recent AAA game I bought was Elden Ring. I'm not expecting FromSoft to add content to it in February 2032 to celebrate it's 10 year anniversary. I expect a social media post, maaaaybe a bit of a sale since that one isn't super close to the big seasonal steam sales.

And yeah... The GOTY edition regularly goes on sale for $10. I consider Fallout 4 to be a decent, but not great, game. Solid 7/10. $10 for the GOTY is still a great deal. It is unwise to buy it at full price, but that's kind of just how Steam works nowadays. It's playing off the psychology of shopping, so it makes more sense to leave the base price high and discount it regularly than to just drop the price permanently.

You can totally buy the upgrade for the paid mods separately for $20. You can also just buy the GOTY edition and buy the specific mods from that storefront that you want individually. Or you can still just stick with free mods or play vanilla. They aren't getting rid of any of the options.

Like, they aren't making the game worse. They aren't pulling a 2K- adding a launcher to games that previously did not have one, breaking Linux and Steam Deck compatibility for games that previously had it, retroactively pushing out ToS updates to allow them to install spyware on your machine, etc. They aren't raising prices like Microsoft is doing with GamePass or like Factorio did a couple years ago. I'm not sure what is going on here that's worth getting upset over.

No horse armor? No deal.

[–] cmnybo@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 days ago

You can get the normal version for $10 when it's on sale. The new version will most likely break compatibility with mods. The only reason I still play it is because of mods.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I was considering getting the CC bundle, anybody tried the beast hunter missions yet?

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Make sure its actually included in teh CC bundle, because I saw someone say bigger mods like the bounty hunter one werent in the bundle.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

I doubt it is, because while it's listed on the AE announcement page, it isn't listed in the list of things included in the bundle of Creation Club stuff.

[–] tal@lemmy.today -1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

I already own the game and all DLC.

What I want:

  • A port to the Starfield engine.

  • Higher-res textures. I have a present-day video card, and Fallout 4 has been out for ages.

From a very brief skim, it doesn't sound like either is present.

If one owns the full game already, it sounda like one gets a bunch of Creation Club stuff. This appears to be mostly some new items and skins. A "Sea Scavengers" quest and "Clandestine Couture" quest, which apparently come wirh new companions. There's a list at the link below.

Bethesda has, in the past, released updates (like texture resolution updates), and those might be only going into the Anniversary Edition moving forward, if it works like Skyrim did.

It sounds like they do include ultrawide monitor fixes and improvements, so for someone with that, that might be significant, but that may also be going to non-AE users. Might be worth investigating if you have an ultrawide monitor.

Setting aside the value issue, I'd hold off for a bit if you have a heavily modded install to see what consensus is on any breakage and to let modders fix things.

https://bethesda.net/en/article/3IN7gxAs893fv09b7ZJ3I0/fallout-4-anniversary-edition-now-available

If you own the standard edition of Fallout 4, you can pick up the Anniversary Edition Upgrade to receive the 6 expansions and the 150+ pieces of Creation Club content.

If you own the Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition and just want to get the Creation Club content, you can get the Creations Bundle separately. Browse all the available content (including the individual items in the Creations Bundle) through the new in-game Creations menu.

It sounds like they're going to be putting out some other Creation Club quest content, but they don't say that that's gated on getting AE, and it doesn't sound like it's included with the upgrade:

Many new Creations are coming to Fallout 4, including “Tale of the Beast Hunter” from the team at Hobgoblin Studios which is available now! Pick it up through the Creations menu and uncover the legend of the Beast Hunter. Unlock the Beast Hunter’s outfit and his revolving shotgun and face off against his pet Deathclaw, Bessy, in a brutal showdown. “Tale of the Beast Hunter” is also your chance to bring a piece of the Mojave to the Commonwealth with ‘The Bar,’ a unique new player home that feels straight out of the Strip.

Why the starfield engine, if I may ask?

It seems to be graphically identical to Fallout 4, yet runs a whole lot worse, in my experience.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It runs much more smoothly for me.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

how the hell did you manage that.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I'm assuming that the older engine is written to not take advantage of newer hardware. Fallout 76 gets down to around 40 fps in some places around Morgantown Airport, for example, but Starfield stays smooth, well over 120 fps.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

the only way i get above 45fps in starfield is if i crank everything to low/medium.

I can run fallout 4 at max everything and still get like 100+ in heavy fights(i dont remember the exact number, been a while since i last played, but definitely high enough for a butter experience)

which is a stark contrast for a game that seems visually unchanged from fallout 4.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

I'm running pretty current hardware (7950X3D, RX 7900 XTX), so could be that it can take advantage of the hardware. Starfield's also throwing a lot more by way of polygons and textures at the screen.

There's some new Creations Club item that some Reddit users are discussing that lets one play as a ghoul. I don't know if it's part of the upgrade or just releasing at the same time or what:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/1oq31bu/fallout_4_ae_upgrade/

There's a ghoulification mod made by bp42 releasing on Creations on day one iirc.

Discord message:

"I'm excited to officially announce my upcoming creation for Fallout 4, Ghoulification!

Overview:

Gain the option to leave your humanity behind and become a ghoul, with a host of new custom gameplay mechanics and reactivity.,
