Indulge me for the coming delusion, but if we ignore who this is, forget all the reasons we know that we can't trust him, and allow ourselves just a few moments to hope that we could live in such a world.

A world where manual labor is no longer needed, where people can just exist as large mammals are meant to exist. Robots will handle it all and we can just do as we please... and the robots are going to be plentiful because once enough of the process of making a robot becomes automated, the cost of it will go to zero. But to get there it is going to require a ton of money... these robots are going to be way too expensive for people to actually buy them, so investors and governments will help out. The investors will eventually lose everything, but that will put us on the way to having everything we need to be created through completely automated systems.

Of course, there will still be jobs for those who really want them - or more likely, who want them and are good at them - or even more likely, who knows the right people... but if we can get our basic needs taken care of it night not fully end poverty but it would be a step in the right direction.

But, alas... It's Musk saying it so it's only to further enrich himself and won't actually happen.

*his poverty, right

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Or just give all your money away to poor people. By my calculations that would be about $25k per poor adult.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

So he is investing in armed robots that just kill the poor to end poverty?

That's an extremely hopeful outcome if robots take on jobs.

What I see is robots taking all low education/automation jobs, companies still making consumers pay the same (or more) and making a bigger profit, and compaines only hiring people with over experience and over education (don't forget connections- most people I know get high paying jobs this way). Education itself is in peril as well, due to the use of ai to write papers and complete math problems. Not to mention that teachers now use it to grade work (true story.. a friends academic writing teacher admitted to this..)

Notice how easy it is to con a con man?

So. Not to change the subject (all that much), but - suppose king d and noel candlehead were casing Ft. Knox instead of "making sure all that gold was there". You know, how it's stored. Soil conditions. Geological structure. etc. Taking measurements, as it were.

Now... supposition.? nay. high probability. notice how fast "gold" was never mentioned again?

This ends with him and musk walking off with the gold in Ft. Knox doesn't it? This will leave America worthless. While his right hand waves around over there with distraction after distraction... THIS is your plan, isn't it? Where to? Greenland? (not yet?) NK? There's a killer beach resort just for you! Country comes with slave labor so you and your kids can turn out knockoffs. F**king perfect, don't you think? And little girls galore! And with all that gold - even putin would let you hang around again - (but be sure to take care around open tenth story windows in buildings you'll take the stairs in.

He's a crook and he's in charge of the biggest piggy bank in the world. And apparently we're all okay with that.

Fuck's sake.

Hugo Drax had it all figured out in Moonraker. We just need a higher natural resources per capita ratio, then it all works out easily.

His hair looks so good though.

So you mean to say that Elmo lied again?

About everything?

You don't say?

No, Optimus won't solve poverty, it'll make him a king

That is, of course, if Optimus would ever see the light of day and be actually functional which they're so far behind with that I'm honestly unsure if I should laught at him or just feel sad for him

Sure sure, there's already an animated show on Fox (regular network, not news) called Universal Basic Guys making fun of the idea when it's not even being seriously considered yet. Here's maybe a news flash for some rich folks: MOST people don't mind working as long as they are PROPERLY COMPENSATED.

This is going to make a world similar to the Time Machine. A massive group will happily outsource their need to think for the pleasure of leisure.

Ah fresh rich people toy tech to burn and pollute the planet, that’ll cause more social damage and soulless, apathetic depressed people who are going to get entertainment from digitally screaming at others and watching ai slop tv.

He is so fucking selfless in his ambitions to eliminate poverty...........

and the robots are going to be plentiful because once enough of the process of making a robot becomes automated, the cost of it will go to zero.

That's wrong, new layers of generalization do you know what? They make the thing cheaper or more expensive depending on the balance between the buyer and the seller, which is changed. Nothing more.

And suppose you're the all-powerful and simultaneously benevolent seller, as a thought experiment. The thing becomes cheaper or more expensive based on its applicability to tasks and your ability to generalize that.

It's a big matter, manual labor and trades are the part of economies least affected by centralized control and computerization. With software development you can't replace people with chatbots. But with repeating manual tasks like replacing a window or painting a wall - possible. I mean, no, I don't think that's possible either, too many small complications. I don't know what Elon is on again, of course you need some substances to keep you going in this world when you're autistic, none of us will judge him for that.

Anyway, your direction of thought is kaboom idiotic, see, you're as valuable as you're needed, everything else is driven by that. I mentioned autistic people, well, most people not autistic don't even notice how rules of dignity and morality they start applying only the layer above their basic one, of social hierarchy and power and alliances. Elon is known to be autistic and there's a trillion in the title, so he really might believe what he's selling, but those of us without trillions or even measly billions should know better.

So - robots fulfilling demand mean people not being in demand. That sucks.
