I'm looking to buy their 10TB harddrive because its on sale. I find conflicting answers from the past and present when I search.

Looking at the 2023 Q2 BackBlaze report, it seems you should absolutely avoid 10TB drives.

I don't trust Seagate.

But I'm also a western digital fanboy.

Just get it you'll be fine.

I was a long time samsung--wd user, recently just out of curiosity bought a 10tb external seagate drive.

performance is great, not loud but its 60°C idle... the plastic enclosure is terrible at dissipating heat and shucking it voids the warranty so that's that. Never had an external drive this size so i cant say its not normal for these, but all my internal drives even in external docks are chilling at 30-35 °C ...

tldr: if you buy, don't buy external

Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
