Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I was really confused about how Gundams applied to this title before reading the text.

I mean it's been a while since I watched any of it but I recall there being space Nazis and they used their overwhelming force to subjugate others.

LOL yeah, people do whole podcasts and giant episodes about the fascism in Gundam lore.

I think it still works, they just reverse it and hide themselves in the robots just like their hearts

I wonder how long it'll be before somebody murders someone with a robot that they're piloting.

Generic admin login is gonna be the inciting incident, I'm putting money on it.

Sounds like an Issac Asimov plot. Hell, pretty sure it is an Asimov plot from one of the Robots books.

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

And then gets away with it because they're operating the robot from a country that doesn't have extradition treaties with the victim's country

AI cars are already murdering people [1]. The CEOs dont care as long as their customer is safe.

GET IN THE ROBOT BUTLER SHINJI!

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 3 points 2 months ago

Finally a justification for them to be mopey.

What I think is most stupid about these bots is that they aren't even trying to sell them as remote piloted surrogates.

I don't want a maid bot. It'd be pretty cool to control the robot myself from VR tho.

Washing the dishes. VR edition. While you’re playing the game, the maid bot does the household chores. Just try not to drop anything valuable in VR, because the bot might break something IRL.

I'd use it to skateboard without hurting my actual body 😃

steps onto board; it snaps in half from the weight

There was a sci-fi movie where surrogate robot bodies were used for everything. Only very few people actually lived their lives using their real body. Was a pretty cool concept.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Aye. The film is Surrogates.

[–] TranquilTurbulence@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Oh, thanks. It’s been many years since I’ve seen that movie. Had completely forgotten the name too.

Yeah give me rich people getting into **ROBOT FIGHTS!**™

Or like let me rent it to do heavy housework for the day or something...
Doesn't have to be Robot Fights™ I guess...

“I have black robots!”

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago

I, for one, look forward to reading about the ensuing robotically-assisted murders of ultrawealthy folk who think this is a good idea

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

And they can't steal or threaten you in any way! What a dream! /s

Future? I like your optimism.
