Did some quick math, with 98% reporting, Omar Fateh needs 69% of the remaining vote in the subsequent rounds to hit 50%

Not looking good :.(

Has anyone been following the Atlanta mayoral race? Are any of Dickens's opponents against Cop City in a way that might be real?

Edit - I guess a good reason for not having seen anything about this race is that he's not being seriously challenged.

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO lets-fucking-go

Simply hard for me to be happy with Mamdani winning considering how close it was, probably another noteworthy radicalizing moment in my life I’d say

[–] RomCom1989@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, isn't it a bit early to make that call? I would wait until all the votes are counted to make that sorta judgement

[–] Hohsia@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Idk my brain directly went to the fact that Elon recently tweeted telling people not to vote for Zohran and got like a million likes while Trump did the same on truth social- It’s the realization of 40+% of the population being propagandized beyond hope and routinely doing the most to continue fucking over themselves and everyone else.

[–] RomCom1989@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I think the more hopeful (and optimistic) interpretation is that he won DESPITE that

To win despite the torrent of ratfuckery and win somewhat comfortably is nothing but inspiring, regardless of what I personally think of his overall political aims,it's still good this happened,at least in my opinion

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

likes on social media in general but especially those platforms with those people mean basically nothing. Elon's probably aren't even bots instead of just a fake +1Mil.

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Twitter is half bots as this point dude. While Elon is out tweeting, Mamdani and his campaign were out canvassing the entire city.

I enjoyed watching Rania Khalek shoot her shot with Hasan live on his stream at Zohran’s party. Girl went hard in the paint, love to see the effort.

obviously comparing (big) apples and oranges, but any good theories as to why Zohran would take NYC but Fateh and Wilson in Minneapolis and Seattle look posed to lose? Is Zohran really a wunderknid candidate? Is Cuomo really politically toxic? Are those cities really less progressive?

maybe those things, but i also wonder if being in the media capital allowed additional attention to brought to the NYC mayoral race, which redounded to Zohran's benefit, insofar as it lent credibility to him as an outside candidate, and gave him more juice/momentum. like, it's more for fun/thrilling/motivating to be part of Zohran's movement, which is talked about on every tiktok and by every big streamer, and in the paper of record and on all the national news outlets, rather than to ride with the woman who is the transit union leader and is not dapping up Hasan and Stavy on the regular.

obvious this speaks to the need for more organizing. but maybe nick mullen could go out to the mall of america or something.

[–] WIIHAPPYFEW@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Should be noted that half of Seattle’s ballots are mail-in, which usually lean towards the progressives but get counted later really slowly, and that Fateh has kind of a mixed reputation due to having one of the worst legal teams of all time

MN has ranked choice voting, so these are the numbers for the first round

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I can't believe frey might survive the george floyd backlash

hope everyone who didn't vote for him first round fucking hates him

[–] Inui@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

I think chances are slim personally, but Fateh, Davis, and Hampton did all campaign together under a "Don't Rank Frey" slogan, so it's possible.

I put in a line that this race is ranked choice. Thanks for the clarification.

two dozens threads pinned to the front page but couldn't manage this one -- mods hate seeing another muslim brother succeed.
