I hate how you need a phone number for everything these days... I'm looking for recommendations on an app or service for temporary phone numbers.

I know that "free" services exist for what I'm asking for but I don't like the idea of receiving potentially sensitive info in a place that anyone can access.

Ideally, something like "simple login" would be perfect. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

https://fmhy.net/storage#sms-verification-sites This might be helpful. It looks like there are free numbers anyone can use or you can pay for private ones. I'd recommend one that lets you pay with monero if you want maximum privacy

I've found that the paid for tiers work the best, and will even work with Signal. Free services are hit or miss.

Another consideration to keep in mind, if you use a free service to sign up for something like Signal, the chances that you'll have that same number to use in case of account recovery, etc, are slim. So, I would go with a good paid service.

Keep in mind that if you don't own that phone number, anyone else can come along and potentially get access to your account.
