Be that voice that will never stop talking about the possibility of a new world. A voice that convinces people that socialism is the solution. A voice that sparks the desire for a better and fair world.

Sometimes I am reminded that the city I live in is 55% migrants (from everywhere around the world) and I'm amazed at the diversity. Over 180 nationalities in this city.

As if the US moves here in Latin America has not been worrying enough, the police of Rio de Janeiro just committed the biggest massacre the state of RJ has ever had, there's more than ~~160~~ 120 dead (sorry got the numbers wrong), and only 4 cops died. The governor of RJ is saying that the operation was a success, even tho they did not even get the person they invaded the favela for. From January to September of this year alone, the RJ police has killed more than 510 people.

Shit's getting bleaker.

Edit: There are also reports of some of the dead being decapitated.

That's fucking awful, comrade. Stay safe.

I just wanted to post this stamp I got, not my photo but it's the same one. I just like a lot of the art designs that went into soviet stamps.

[–] blobii@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

wow Soviet stamps really were amazing!

Bruh legit saw a UFO just now. Saw something flying in the air with lights flashing (two white, one red) but in a pretty fast way. I was like: damn that plane is flashing a lot. But then I noticed it was hovering in one place too. So I grabbed my binoculars but I couldn't figure out what it was. It wasn't a helicopter either because it was pretty far up in the sky as well. Maybe it was a drone?

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

100% a UFO. It was an object, it was flying and you could not identify it.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Well, observer effect would mean that'll you'll see more soon if it was a some aliens drifting some sick orbs. Otherwise probably just a NATO drone looking for weddings.

edit: two white on red sounds like aviation lights as well.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

We've got an airport so it's not strange to have lots of planes flying around but the fact it was hovering makes it strange. So probably just a drone. The army has been increasing drills lately.

[–] Malkhodr@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

I'd probably assume a drone. Though I'm a bit ruthless in my UAP/UFO skepticism.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

You are currently in Belgium right? Its likely just drones in preparation for the soon to come russia-eu war

Talking to people who think in individualism feels like different languages at times, stuck talking past each other. Or at least, I think that may be the cause. It can go a little something like:

Me: something something systemic issues

Them: okay, but like, you have to do what you can with what you have

Me: I know, I understand you have to work with the circumstances in front of you, I'm just saying, systemic issues though

Them: but you have to do what you can with what you have

I don't know if there's anything I can say differently in this kind of situation to bridge the gap, or if it's just a fundamental difference in worldview.

[–] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

They might see it as complaining about something beyond your control, because the average liberal doesn't even consider doing anything beyond voting or maybe protesting (although if you suggest organized action, they'd likely just claim that it's unrealistic)

[–] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

That's a fair point, thanks for your thoughts on it. I have wondered if it's in that realm of things, but this crystallizes it more I think. Like because they don't see it as realistic to force the world to change (or are too fundamentally icked out by the idea of collective force), they fall back on changing themselves as the only solution to anything? (Well, changing themselves and maybe trying to influence a few people in their circle, but that's about it.) That seems plausible for sure.

Can someone tell me why I was told by an r/ultraleft member that Marxist Literature is banned in Dprk?

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, the "why" is only known to that r/ultraleft user. Unless that user could share evidence of a policy detailing the ban, Marxist Literature is not banned in the DPRK as far as I know. Marxist literature is referenced in plenty of popular books of Kim Jong Il:

Maybe, the user is misinformed or misinterpreting the fact that the Juche idea(born from the teachings of Marxism-Leninism) is taught over other Marxist literature(twisted this information to reach the conclusion that it was "banned"). The answer that clears this confusion is simple and it is referenced in Prolewiki:

  • "In the early years of revolutionary activities, the leader (Kim Il-Sung) was well versed in Marxism-Leninism. But he did not confine himself to applying Marxism-Leninism to the Korean Revolution but pioneered a new phase of revolutionary theory from a steadfast Juche-oriented standpoint and resolved the problems arising in the revolutionary practice from a unique angle." -> https://en.prolewiki.org/wiki/Juche#Marxism%E2%80%93Leninism
[–] lobshevik@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 3 weeks ago

This is exactly what I told him that Juche is born out of Marxism-Leninism and is still relevant.

[–] Malkhodr@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

If literature is written in a asiatic language it loses its class chatecter or something.

Most ultroids are about as chauvinistic as that kind of claim so i wouldn't be surprised if I saw one say it.

Congrats to my city! It's Amsterdam's 750th birthday today

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Election day in The Netherlands today. Again, because we can't keep a government for more than a year it seems.

Anyway, most of the topics boiled down to: 'MIGRANTS' as if that's the only thing that matters now. Can't have a single discussion about anything in that parody country without worrying about brown people.

Also, some dubbed the potential Green/Labour-Neolib-Christian Democrat government as 'left wing'.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I see militarisation as the biggest topic this election but of course the media doesn't

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Probably because every single party except Bij1 and maybe SP are in favour of increasing spending so they don't need to debate that. They know everybody will just follow Yankeeland on that one. And according to D66 you can horndog on Princess Amalia in the army too!

My Amsterdam bubble strikes again. I was so convinced my party BIJ1 was going to get a seat or at least grow a little bit in this election. But Amsterdam is basically the only place where we grew in votes. In Utrecht we had a very slight growth as well. Nationwide we declined in number and did not get a seat. And Amsterdam is also one of the only big cities where the socialdemocrats were the biggest instead of the social liberals. Although Utrecht was very close with socialdemocrats only half a percentage away.

[–] Oppo@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

If it makes you feel any better i voted for BIJ1 and I am no where near Amsterdam

Does anyone else have anti-vax family members?

I feel like Anti-vaxxers are some of the most insufferable people to exist, so much so that I want to pin them to the wall every time one speaks up.

Does anyone know of a dictionary of Marxist terms and concepts? Found one from around 70 years ago, but it isn't as detailed as I'd like. I'm wanting to have something like this to bring around with me to jog my memory talking about politics.

If nobody has anything else, I may just make it myself and post it as some sort of collaborative thing, though I'd need to make the time for it.
