This is a real thing I do. It feels weird if the weight of the carton isn't evenly balanced when I take it from the fridge.

Yep! Nothing worse than picking up an unbalanced carton of eggs and having it tip over only to dump all the eggs on the floor! Splat!

Always take the ones from the corners first, keeping it balanced, avoids catastrophic breaks if dropped.

I prefer to take the eggs from one side and put the "empty/light" side into the back of the fridge so every time I grab it it's closer to the center of balance.

If I placed the carton into the fridge with the long edge to the back... Not sure what I'd do. Never occurred for me to put it in that way.
