Thiago participated in 3 different Gaza Flotilla Missions. He was on board the Madleen Gaza Freedom Flotilla and the Family Global Sumud Flotilla. He acted as a main spokesperson while on these boats.

This is disappointing that he would be friendly with Jackson Hinkle. At the start of the podcast episode, Thiago says tells Hinkle "Thank you Jackson. It's a pleasure to be on Legitimate Targets. Thank you for your work. You do very, very important work to build a new society."

Maybe he thought it was Jason Hickel?

This was my first thought as well. Their names are just too similar!

I don't know much about Avila but it is worth remembering that most people aren't so online they really know and have an informed opinion about Jackson Hinkle. Like in an ideal world nobody would.

Agreed, I'm gonna bet that a Brazilian that is "a main organizer of the flotillas" isn't online enough to know who Jackson Hinkle is. He probably got introduced as "some vaguely left podcaster from America" and that was it

He should quit doing useless things like being a member of the Steering Committee of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and do far more important praxis: posting online

I hear what you're saying but honestly I genuinely think we shouldn't harp on about this; I think there's genuinely a lot of desperation in so many of these folks' attempts to help the Gazan people, and they'll do anything to reach as many people as possible. Unless the host is someone hostile to Gaza or Palestinians (like Ben Shapiro for example), I think they'd be ready to be on as many shows as they can to reach as many people as possible. I saw a video with a Palestinian American doctor who went to Gaza to help on Hasan's show and I got the impression there's a huge amount of desperation on so many of these people's part to disseminate information to as many people as possible and to try and sway as many people as possible.

I personally admit I don't know much about Jackson Hinkle myself, and I wouldn't be surprised if this guys knows even less.

I don't expect some Brazilian who has done and is doing far more important things than being terminally online on Anglo social media to be knowledgeable about every single crank and reactionary on Anglo social media. He also did an interview on Empire Files from the earlier flotilla, so it's not like he's actively seeking out patsocs to the exclusion of people with better politics.

Well... I know it's a shock for most US citizens but most of latin american communism and radical left is VERY, DEEPLY hostile towards the USA.

I don't know if Thiago knew about the nazbol shit but I bet he accepted based on the "death to America" part of Hinkle's whole persona.

Hinkle isn't hostile towards the US though. One of his main things is that he wants the US to annex Canada. He spends most of his time talking about US patriotism and promoting US nationalism. He calls his party, American Communist Party, with emphasis on US nationalism. I don't think that Hinkle ever says "Death to America".

[–] hedd616@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

Perhaps that's the point, I guess.

Mainstream media portrays brazilian Worker's Party as not only Left and radical even when its not. Far from it. In its good days PT works like a reasonable right-wing european party. Hinkle's party have no meaning for brazilian politics, no US party aside the Rep and Dem have.

I'm not defending Thiago here, I couldn't care less, but I think it's more about miscommunication than anything else. But if he's a prick I wouldn't be amazed or impressed at all.
