Gov. Greg Abbott is calling on the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to enforce the removal of “any and all political ideologies” from Texas streets, warning that cities who do not comply will “face consequences.” Non-standard surface markings, signage and signals that “do not directly support traffic control or safety” are prohibited, according to a Wednesday news release from Abbott’s office.

I'm POSITIVE this will Include Thin Blue Line, Confederate, MAGA and OTHER Right Wing Markings too and NOT just Rainbows! IMAGINE how much of a Snowflake you would HAVE to Be to make a Law removing RAINBOWS! And we KNOW Republicans are NOT Snowflakes!

Then they should also remove street signs placed on public property that promote local churches.

Wait until they find out that roads, their design and mandated parking are all expressions of political ideologies.

If you can explain/figure out how toll roads fit into that I would be happy.

[–] artyom@piefed.social -5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Toll roads are usually built because no one will vote for taxes for new roads.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Not in Texas. SH 183's toll road in northern Austin was already entirely paid for by tax dollars. They installed tolls, anyway.

[–] artyom@piefed.social -4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I didn't say entirely. I said usually.

Toll roads are built because someone will profit from it, typically at the expense of the taxpayer.

A less good service is provided and investment in a better alternative ignored entirely.

FTA: "According to TxDOT, the SAFE ROADS (Safe Arterials for Everyone through Reliable Operations and Distraction-Reducing Strategies) initiative"

Holy fuck with the acronyms!

[–] Schmoo@slrpnk.net 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

They absolutely asked an LLM to create a list of acronyms for them and picked that out of the lineup.

[–] FigMcLargeHuge@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

They didn't even use it correctly. If they are using the F in for, then they left off the T from through and the A in and. SAFETROADRS.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago
