Hydroplaning is terrifying. A more experienced driver can sometimes handle a situation like this, but generally you just have to wait for your tires to regain traction. Slamming the brakes or harshly turning the wheel is a recipe for disaster. Let off the gas and ease the wheel into the desired direction, hope you regain control before a turn or a impact like this.
My dad had me go into a icy parkinglot when i started driving to simulate situations like this. Its really the only way to understand what to do in my opinion. Even having had it explained to me, your instincts take over and are bound to make a mistake if it is your first time losing traction.
Also in general, just drive with more caution to your surroundings and don’t go these speeds when in the rain surrounded by obstacles. Anyone who’s driven anything with more than a couple hundred horsepower should already be familiar with how easy it can be to lose control. If they went from a commuter straight to a McLaren, they never stood a chance in the rain.
ABS and ESP should help a bit, but can only do so much
ABS and ESP have no power here if there's no traction available. They can help get the vehicle back under control once that happens though.
Wide flat sports tires are shit on wet roads. Once they start to hydroplane you're just along for the ride.
