One of the reasons they are doing this now is because they just resoundingly lost the municipal elections:

As you can see, opposition aligned media try to blame it on repression and boycotts.
But arresting literal foreign agents who have tried to overthrow the government is not repression, it's legitimate protection of sovereignty and the democratic process. If you ask me they haven't arrested enough people - a ton of foreign funded NGOs are still operating in the country and constantly causing trouble, such as orchestrating these riots.
There is a bit of truth to the boycott part, sure Georgian Dream would have gotten less than 80% if parts of the opposition had not boycotted, but the reason why they do these boycotts in the first place is because they know they can't win the election so they just try to delegitimize it instead.
The truth of the matter is much simpler: the current ruling party is popular because they've managed to deliver pretty good economic results (9-10% average growth rates over the past few years), and have maintained stability for the country.
There is a lot you can criticize Georgian Dream for (association with oligarchs, social conservatism, etc.), but you have to at least give them credit for this: so far they have not allowed the country to be dragged into a war, which is something that the EU and NATO are desperate to do (they constantly talk about opening up a second front against Russia to take the pressure off of Ukraine where they are losing badly).
Georgians still remember the disastrous results of the Saakashvili government (which came to power via a color revolution) which at the behest of NATO dragged the country into a conflict with Russia in 2008, and which they very quickly and decisively lost. No one in their right mind wants a repeat of that, and they certainly don't want to turn their country into another Ukraine. Only the EU and NATO's puppets and their paid NGO activists do.
Normal people tend to appreciate it when there is peace and stability and the economy is doing well. Meanwhile the opposition is becoming increasingly associated in the eyes of average Georgians with chaos, disruption and violence.
