how's everyone? it's chuseok here

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Merry chuseok! (I didn't know what that was until just now but harvest festivals are the best festivals)

thanks a ton. it's nice out here

huh, didn't realize there were still so many electoralist holdouts on hexbear until the last half year or so. not making a judgment one way or another or trying to feed internet drama, just an observation. it had seemed for a while that the space had turned pretty firmly against that theory of change post-Bernie.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They rear their head every time a new AOC/Bernie comes out and then dog pile everyone else, chasing off the more radical and especially anti-imperialist members of that instance (curious). I think the refusal to have a burning zionist flag emoji did cause a lot of non-white users to leave.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I knew of a few popular users that have dipped because of the surge of radlibs. One's gripe was specifically about users dunking on Sakai. Other than that, there is a surge of combative users too. Purpleworm is one to take a look at. I've never seen someone lose their fucking shit over a meme like that, lmao.

okay I know I wanted to not stoke internet drama (and this is mostly separate from electoralism stuff) but I will say: that struggle session and the big one late last year really showcased the core issues with the site IMO. culture of administration has always had an undercurrent of bogus Poster's Vanguardism, but admins seem to have radlib politics with chauvinist tendencies (in a majority ML instance, so a user base that's broadly more politically developed than its leadership) and the site has no real democratic input. these contradictions came to a head at various points in the last year, after a year or two of peace & relatively chill vibes.

that's not to mention the impression many have of contempt for the userbase from site management, or the impression that you can get away with a lot of hostility (or tbh outright bullying) if management likes you enough and/or you have enough clout, but that's a discussion for another time.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 22 hours ago

Sadly thats all too common in irl local chapters/ organized groups as well. I know too many cases where essentially a unofficial clique of friends pick out a pet-issue or cover for someone with reactionary views (or even like being a creep towards female comrades) and then push out any who make a fuss. Of course they will provide a splurge of socialist worded nonsense to justify it.

It gets on my nerves seeing it online replayed.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Pretty sure there has been an organized operation to make hexbear less revolutionary that has been gaining significant traction over the last year. By this time next year it'll be a blahaj.zone clone with a better take on the ukraine war.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 day ago

Less that, I've been more wary of their takes on China and recent color revolutions springing up around the world. Electoralism non-sense does feel like a warning sign all things considered, though.

[–] SoylentSnake@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

do you mean by state actors? i feel like hexbear is too low impact for that personally. (letting disgruntled people who use the site in bad faith into positions of power, that i do think has happened.)

tbh i think it's mostly underlying contradictions and negative tendencies in the site culture/administration that have always been there, but came to a head in the last year or so. admins have always seen themselves as Vanguard of Posts (rather than what they should be, which is peacekeepers of a chill, cozy community whose focus and culture should be directed by the users). my impression is that that undercurrent kind of erupted after a year or two of relative peace & chill vibes.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 20 hours ago

A year ago during the "unaccountable and inconsistent moderation" Struggle sessions I was willing to think it was just a random mistake that put the wrong people into power. But those struggles were never resolved and they just kept banning people and addressing "issues" that were not the real problem.

Now here we are where trashing China and staning for a democratic party NYC mayoral candidate are the norm.

If anything the Vanguard of Posters have been ejected from power and the "chill vibes" crypto-liberals are running the place.

I've also seen a massive uptick in 'irony-posting' (I don't have a name for it) reminiscent to what I've seen on

[–] SoylentSnake@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

just a lot more DSA posting since Zohran, a few users over there are active members.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 day ago

Aaaaah, I've seen that. I thought you were talking about main-stream electoral stuff and I was gonna get whiplash that it was starting up this early. Yeah, for as much as that is worth, that really shit the bed when Zionist Mamdani started spitting Israeli propaganda on TV.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some were very involved in his campaign and do try to recruit on there.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly, I don't mind comrades joining the DSA just because it's a great salt tactic. I've personally had a few lib-adjacents I've pulled away from the DSA. I just think it's a fool's errand to expect anything to ever come of it other than a radicalizing pool.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Funny thing is that they don’t really mind at all. The issue lies with the domination aspect of some pro-electoral people that essentially demand complete subjugation to their view and see whoever is currently the left celeb du jour as the hail mary for change.

One of the victims of the stabbing in Manchester today was hit by a police bullet and may have died as a result. Can't make that shit up.

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 2 days ago

Just heard about a local hospital suing 3,000 of its own patients for medical debt and I've never wanted to do something I can't legally describe more than right now.

Fuck this country, man. This place is evil.

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 days ago

Did Hegseth just encourage the army to do even more war crimes? Also on a freudian slip he confirmed that the troops get paid to murder people and pillage stuff 😐

[–] prof_tincoa@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I got my reddit account temporarily banned for 3 days.

For context, r/NBA was discussing gambling, and a user said there are wealthy people making a lot of money with gambling. So despite being detrimental to society, gambling isn't going anywhere.

I replied we can stop them by cutting their heads off. Got suspended for violating Rule #1, then deleted the app 😛

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I am pretty sure the primary source of revenue for sports leagues right now is their partnership with gambling sites, so unfortunately online gambling is here to stay in sports in most of the world. It's crazy how embedded it has become the last 5-6 years, they put betting lines in the damn broadcast overlay, sports influencers are all sponsored by one of the big online casinos, it has become so normalized that people simply do not watch games without betting.

[–] gumibo@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 day ago

yeah I'd ban you too for being too merciful

So a stabbing at a synagoge in Manchester today. The presumed suspect is an Arab/Middle-Eastern looking man and it is suspected he was wearing a bomb belt too.

This is just going to accelerate the already sky high tensions between white supremacists and the rest.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It'll probably mean defcon 1 in our Jewish district in the city as well. So military in the streets, I guess.

I need to apologise to all the comrades who were saying Corbyn is controlled opposition, a distraction, and no better than Bernie.

You were right all along and I should've seen it back when Corbyn as the Labour leader banned socialists who supported Palestine for supposed "antisemitism" while keeping all the Blairites, neoliberals and imperialists like Starmer. I thought "he has to do that to stay electable and to survive in British parliamentary politics" but the truth of the matter is he was perfectly content to strangle the new party in it's infancy the moment he felt attacked from the left, and suddenly being electable or survival of the party didn't matter at all.

For context, he announced a new party with Zarah Sultana, she quit the Labour party for this, and the moment she went out of line (by launching the membership portal without checking with him first) he immediately threw a public tantrum, threatened legal action, sent a mass mail to all subscribers that the portal is "unautharised" and "if any direct debits have been set up, they should be immediately cancelled" and so on.

The portal was doing great by the way, it had 20,000 paying members within 3 hours of announcement which is completely unprecedented and he wrecked it and completely killed the momentum because he felt threatened by a young, brave, socialist, brown Muslim woman.

Now it seems Zarah has been completely sidelined, there is no mention of her in any communications, and today Corbyn officially registered the party with the Electoral Commission with himself as a sole leader and a transphobic, socially conservative landlord as Nominating Officer.

This is a complete betrayal and I feel sick thinking back to how I kept supporting him. He's a wrecker, I was being a lib and I was wrong.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah he shit the bed massively it seems. Which sucks because he came to our party events a lot but this just looks shit. Fucker.

Been really unfocused the last couple of days, they've been a blur. Need to snap out of it, maybe get some more sleep if I can find the time for it.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Have you gotten 8 hours of sleep at all?

Why are things a blur for you, exactly? Or do you not know?

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Haven't had 8 in weeks, usually around 5-6. A lot is going on is all, and I think I'm pushing past my limit for handling it all effectively. I've got a solid month out before it slows down though.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You absolutely need sleep then, especially since you don't want to get a "sleep deficit." You need to make up your "sleep debt" in order to think straight again, which will likely take a couple of days in your case. Melatonin or especially Flonase PM will put you to sleep. Even if a lot is going on, it's best to think straight through it all.

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I hear you, just wish there was time for it. Pretty stacked schedule lately, for the time being

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Well, good luck on getting through it all.

Just remember your sleep hygiene by the end of it.

Third day of Trintellix (5 mg).

I'm also taking less Lexapro and will switch off completely; psychiatrist will most likely up the dosage of the Trintellix as well to 10 mg or even 20 mg.

Not sure how I should be feeling, but I do feel fine right now.

I have internalized learned helplessness the way only a materially comfortable petite bourgoisified first worlder can and I hate that about myself.
