/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Good comparison. Explains why I never even started any of the modern shows in the first place.

I disagree. I don’t think episodic TV cranking out 24 episodes in a season is the best way to do it. There’s too much filler and not enough attention paid to the overall story arc. Many shows were excellent for seasons 1-2 but then the creativity faded.

There is a middle ground, I think. Breaking bad, for example, had a contiguous storyline, but also had limited episodes. Critically, I think, the network didn’t come in and say “can you do another 3 seasons of the same thing”.

I would rather have 10 great episodes that are tight and we’ll written, than a 24 episode season that feels cheap and is jammed with filler. Those long shows will have season long arches that go on so long i stop caring by the end

I’m trying to get my tinder date, Murderbot, into an LTR.

The problem is that those longer seasons required 12 hour days for actors and crew.

[–] sausager@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Why does it mean that? Why can't they just record over a longer period of time at 8 hours a day?

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Filmmaking has a "setup and breakdown" rhythm, several hours spent readying gear, lighting, and sets before actual filming can begin. In an 8-hour day, a greater proportion of the time would be spent on setup and wrap, leaving fewer usable hours for shooting.
