Description

Gargant - Mortar Siege Crawler

The Imperial Gargant is a heavy military crawler designed to protect and support infantry. In service of the Imperial Army since pre-war period, the chassis is based on that of domestic crawlers, but with the addition of armored crew compartment with entry hatches on backside, a mortar turret and built-in fighting position for infantry riding on the back that includes three machine gun turrets; two to the front and one at the back.

Gargant’s primary purpose is to serve as a mobile fortress, relying on its armor as it approaches enemy ranks and takes up defensive position there, allowing infantry to fight safely from cover provided by its metal plating. It proved adequate for the task before the Falzan War, when the Army encounters little to no crawler resistance. However, Gargant became utterly outmatched by Worker States Alliance walkers due to its massive size, low maneuverability and weaponry that is ill-suited for walker combat. During Falzan War, it is often assigned to low-intensity fighting and ranged fire support duty, using various type of mortar shells. As more and more walkers are built by the Imperial Loyalists to fulfill combat needs, some Gargants have their weapons removed and converted into heavy supply carrier, faraway from the front.

Nonetheless, the Gargant is still a symbol of Imperial’s former power and glory, for those who can remember it. A number of them regularly find their place in military parades, year after year alongside the newer walkers, never to be forgotten as the unrelenting fist of the empire that reach out and crush any foe.
