ENVIOUS

I'm such a slut for these things

What region, if you don't mind saying? I've always wanted to try these but have never come across them (US PNW).

US PNW. I have encountered them before in one specific location at this time of year but this year they were all over the place. It seems so specific to weather history since I didn't find any of the other varieties I usually do. I also found white chanterelles when I never have before.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I've never seen chanterelles this time of year, either, but I know that they're out there.

I was able to gather some hedgehogs and coral types to fry all four together. Not a single king bolete this year though which was strange.

Nope. It is delicious. Hence the name.

Butter in a pan will do. You can also incorporate into sauces. Some stomach discomfort is possible if not fully cooked from what I understand but it's mild and person specific I think.

How do they taste? Compared to portabello

[–] persona_matata@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Kind of mild. The name is fairly accurate since you can substitute it into dishes for chicken breast. It's not my favorite but when you find them you end up with a large quantity pretty quickly and they are up off the ground so nice and clean.
