How much does 1 banana cost? $10?

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Pence is the subdivision of the British pound. Given the era it would've been equivalent to about 30 cents.

Pence saved democracy

I'm amused that it was also worth individually weiging and pricing them. Couldn't possibly sell a 14p banana for 13, eh?

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Is that real? It looks real. We're fucked.

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 weeks ago

Its from many years ago, but yeah was real. This isnt done in that store (morrisons) or anywhere else these days. The morrisons logo in that photo was replaced over 20 years ago.

Amazing opportunity to make some machine that sprays a thick bright yellow layer of plastic on a banana, that you peel off and then peel off the probably greyish-green real peel under that because yarg.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

There's always money in the banana stand

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

To be completely fair. Banana peels are edible. So sometimes it could be nice to have them clean?

But in all seriousness, fuck useless plastic packaging.

Who in their right mind eats banana peels (except Kevin Spacey)?

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 2 points 1 week ago

Different cultures. India, Southeast Asia…

Places bananas seem to be native too.

If you’ve never had banana peel curry I recommend you try its very good.

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

If you are eating bananas whole I urge you to stop

Very robust when compared to the thin plastic film they've wrapped it in

Morrisons individually shrink-wraps cucumbers. They also sell half cucumbers, which are just the shrink-wrapped cucumbers cut in half with a knife so now the inside is exposed.

They used to just sell bunches of bananas though.

At the grocery store I go to, most of the organic produce is in some kind of plastic packaging.

[–] lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bananas wrapped in plastic... Cancelled away by the liberals...

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

Bloody Nick Clegg.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My aunt would refrigerate them

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I put them in the freezer to make banana bread before they go in the bin

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

That makes sense. Good on ya!
