Mabuhay at maligayang pagdating sa Lemmy! 🇵🇭

A fediverse community for the Philippines and all things Filipino!

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Stupid is as stupid does.

“We need to be very clear, you are not going to get gun deaths to zero,” he said. “It will not happen. You can significantly reduce them, by having more fathers in the home, by having more armed guards in front of schools. We should have a honest and clear reductionist view of gun violence, but we should not have a utopian one.”

But he hates when kids have two dads.

More recently, he discussed the burning of Pride flags, writing on X (Twitter): “We should work to overturn every conviction for those arrested, fined, or otherwise harassed for the ‘hate crime’ of doing donuts over Pride flags painted on public streets.

“It should be legal to burn a rainbow or [Black Lives Matter] flag in public.”

I'm not sure this quote is any kind of gotcha, my friend. It's one of the more reasonable things he ever said, in fact, minus the gross implications of how to reduce them.

Edit for clarity: the reason this quote is not a great gotcha is because the core thesis of it is undeniably true. You really will never get gun deaths to zero. This is what I mean by saying there's something reasonable to it. My god people, try to see the world with some shades of grey, eh?

He also said Black women "do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person's slot to go be taken somewhat seriously."

Yes, that's a good example of a damning quote. Better to just stick with the strong ones.

After Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, Kirk fantasized about Kelce making Swift "more conservative" and begged the pop star to "submit to her husband."

“This is something that I hope will make Taylor Swift more conservative," he said. "Engage in reality more… Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You're not in charge.”

I...yes? Sorry dude, maybe there's a misunderstanding. I am also team "Charlie Kirk sucks". I'm just saying that just because he sucks doesn't mean every statement he ever made sucks and has now become an epic gotcha. Like if I went around posting "'Broccoli is better than cauliflower' - Kirk", I would want someone to tell me that I'm not making the impact I hope to with that quote.

Why the fuck would Filipinos give a fuck about Charlie Kirk... he sure as fuck wouldn't have supported them in any possible way.

He only care about "Christian purity" or some Aryan bullshit. He would love to get rid of anyone who doesn't comply with his worldview, even so-called grounded Fil-Ams in red states.

Doug Kramer???? AHAHAHAHAHAHA

No, not Charlie Kirk! What is happening in the USA!" he wrote on his Instagram story. "Of the men I truly admired. He loved Jesus. He wanted a better America. He’s a family man. My heart is broken for his family." His wife, Chesca Garcia-Kramer, also expressed her grief on her Instagram Story.

So... they're GOP whitoids.

The dangers of investing in celebrities.

Might just be some Trump-pandering to stay on his good side for when China decides that the Philippines is basically just more China if you think about it.
