Time table (CEST):

  • 08:30 – 10:00 Qualifying

  • 12:00 – 16:00 Race

Max Verstappen is taking part in a race in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) on the Nordschleife. He will complete a mandatory driver training course on Friday (September 12) and will compete in a Porsche Cayman GT4 CS on Saturday (September 13). He also plans to race again on the Nürburgring Nordschleife on September 27. He intends to compete in his Ferrari 296 GT3. However, he will not be able to race under his pseudonym “Franz Hermann” as he only has a license in his real name.

"Without complaint, Verstappen followed yesterday the theoretical lessons, completed the e-learning, listened to advice from a specialised instructor on the racing lines, and accepted taking part in this race with a car producing less than a third of the power of his Red Bull RB21 F1, not to mention weighting 1320kg. It was a commendable display of humility that once again highlights his passion for the sport."

Good for him! I understand why other drivers consider these requirements to be ridiculous once they've competed in top world championships, but Nordschleife still is something special

The Race: Verstappen gets his Nordschleife permit despite rules complication

Race resultthe #980 Porsche finished as the highest-placed ‘Permit B Cup3’ entry and 27th overall, three laps down on the winning car, the #3 Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Porsche factory drivers Julien Andlauer and Joël Sturm.

To not flood the F1 community with what are technically not F1 posts, I'm adding further information to this post. Any chance to pin this post for the weekend, @wes@lemmy.world?

Is that confirmed? He's not on the attendees list https://teilnehmer.vln.de/download.php?file=onb%2F2025-09-13%2FNLS7_Teilnehmerliste_vorl%C3%A4ufig.pdf

Edit: looks like his security is already here and it's still possible to register drivers

I'm not fully versed with NLS but from the photos below it's clear that his car will be run by Lionspeed GP, so it's either a 4th car of this lineup or one of the listed three drivers is a placeholder:

Please note he's driving a power limited car, so he won't really be in any competition. The goal is to just do the laps and get the requirements to get a license. He needs the license to drive a fully capable car, so he can do the Nürburg 24h next year.

As this is multiclass racing, the competition is his class.

But his car was ~130 HP restricted within the class, so the OP above is right

But his car was ~130 HP restricted within the class

"the #980 Porsche finished as the highest-placed ‘Permit B Cup3’ entry" <-- That's the class the car competed at, not overall GT4 (which isn't a class).

Ah, I just knew it was a nerfd CUP3, didn't realize CUP3 Entry was a class but it's really obvious now that I see it
