I opened a students Chromebook once, and this was their background:

Had a good laugh.

Were they also a Ferrari fan?

Windows admins are notoriously grumpy and known for being apart of the "Cargo Cult". It's difficult to have any fun around these admins as they follow the rules without question exactly as written.

Wanting an exception or needing something special from these guys is a bit like talking to surely teen who really really doesn't want to tackle any complex problems.

It doesn't help that Microsoft trains admins to be button pushers without explanation of why we need to actually push these buttons.

Won't someone please think about the corporation's feelings.

I don't know what else I expected from a community dedicated to Windows.

i like the assumption that having a different wallpaper will "inevitably break" the OS/system, rather than admitting that having windoze OS and its incredible suite of shitty, unstable and extremely expensive software is what will inevitably break the OS/system.

corporate m$ admins who don't hate microsoft are the most incompetent, sniveling idiots and are trained to blame the user for everything, because god knows if you don't have every KB article memorized and don't realize how any one of thousands of innocuous actions can cascade into critical errors and catastrophic failure in that garbage environment... you muste have broken the thing that is barely held together with constant patches and configuration resets/rollbacks.

How do these people think computers work?

You see this so often from phone-as-primary-computing-device people. You ask a simple question like "hey has anyone figured out how to use this device to (usage unintended by OEM)?

"STOP NO!! Don't turn on that setting you're going to break it!! You can't put linux on your mac that would break everything it's so unbelievably complex that your puny mortal mind could never understand what powers you're playing with!!!!!!" rage-cry

They're all GENERAL PURPOSE COMPUTERS. You can do LITERALLY ANYTHING with them so long as no one is standing in your way, and often even when they are.

The kids need DESKTOP COMPUTERS yes I'm going to be a boomer about this forever don't even try to change my mind.

iPads are so ridiculously underpowered on their stock OS. Their hardware is perfectly capable of running a desktop OS in a virtual machine

Got in trouble once in high school because the screen saver options weren't locked out to us students and i was always changing the screen saver from the high school's name to the Wingdings Skull and Crossbones, didn't know I was "hackin the Gibson."

Why did you post a thread from six fucking years ago

[–] NeelixBiederman@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

Hey let's not exaggerate here, the thread is seven years old

[–] iByteABit@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

cause I needed an answer to the question so I don't give a soulless stare at the corporate company logo every fucking morning lol

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 week ago

Sadly not really an answer to the question or way around it.

Their reactions to people wanting to try different backgrounds is still abhorrent
