For all the pedal pushers out there that love long distance cycling. There are no gear requirements and no 'minimum distances' here.

Have you ridden for a cheeky overnighter or a 3 year global trek? Doesn't matter, you're welcome here.

Have you got panniers, bikepacking bags or just a backpack with the essentials? Doesn't matter, you're welcome here.

Have you got the latest in carbon engineering or your dads old 10 speed from the 70's? Doesn't matter, you're welcome here.

After 17,700 km, Eurasia World Record Attempt comes to a halt 400km from the finish line.

I hope failing the record remains the worst part of the story and he is going to be released soon.

More likely he's going to be used as a hostage.

Why do people do shit like this? "I'm as white as snow and I think I'll go hiking through the middle East, whoops" it makes no sense to go to hostile environments, even if you have good intentions.

Edit: since nobody can fucking put 2+2 together. WHITE AS SNOW WAS NOT REFERRING TO THIS GUY. NOR WAS THIS GUY HIKING THROUGH IRAN. IT IS A REFERENCE TO ANOTHER STUPID GROUP THAT WENT HIKING THROUGH IRAN. ITS COMPARING THE TWO. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!

Edit: edit: this is what I was referring to.

In 2009, 3 Americans Went For A Hike, And Ended Up In A Tehran Prison : NPR https://share.google/8eAARc6u4IRWPInJI

Or that guy that went to NK and got caught stealing a poster, or Brittney Griner. There are plenty of other cases of people doing stupid shit in hostile countries.

white as snow

It would be better if people commented on the articles rather than the headlines IMO.

I like how they even assumed that he's a generic pale European guy. A simple search for the dude and my uneducated assumption would be that he would have no problem passing through the Middle East. If that was even the focus of the article.

I wonder if he could've just kept going (not checking in at the border after he has already crossed), made it to the finish line, then left the country the same way he entered with no one the wiser.

Again, not talking about this guy, talking about people going to hostile environments for no reason. That's a separate reference.

The white as snow comes from the reference of those back packers in Iran like, 10 years ago, not to this article. I'm saying people keep doing stupid shit in dangerous countries and gave another reference.

Read the article, the guy is as much white as snow as my ass

Read the whole post and you'll understand I was comparing this to another story of a couple hiking through Iran like 10 years ago and got arrested. Or how about that stupid kid that stole the poster in NK and came home in a coma to die? My post even starts out saying "why do people keep doing this"? It's pretty fucking obvious I was giving another example, or maybe your reading comprehension could use work?

Yeah, now that you edited your post and clarified it, suddenly it's obvious

Maybe not bitch about reading comprehension if you post facto change your writing

Reading the whole post it would have been clear. This guy was arrested in Russia, not Iran. Between white as snow, and hiking, and Iran, you should've known that I wasn't referring to this guy cycling in Russia.
