Seems like the hope for exhaustion is aimed at the wrong target. Hitler, I mean Putin, can keep sending troops all day long from the comfort of his desk. He really doesn't care how many people die for the sake of his ego. I just don't see a clear breakthrough until the war is taken directly to the Russian people, make them acknowledge that yes they really did start a war with another nation and their troops are not in Ukraine to protect anyone. When the Russian people feel the pressure themselves, they'll start putting pressure on their worthless leader. Yeah there's the threat of Putin going batshit-insane and attempting to launch nukes, but at what point do you decide it's worth the risk?
