I notice that unless a post is really popular on Lemmy, when you make a search online. You won't find it. Is there a reason for this and how do we make it so it's as easy to access like Reddit?

I think it’s the way the fediverse works, an inherit limitation, by the fact that it’s not all on one server that’s easily indexed.

However we do have lemmy search:

If only it allowed to search all the communities at once, since it can't do that it's not really helpful

With federation, a server tends to have posts/comments for the communities that its users subscribe to. You most likely will get the most comprehensive search result on the biggest instance, which is lemmy.world now. And who knows when it's going to start dropping off old data.
