I've tried a few peertube instances, peertubenz tilvids, makertube and a few others. I always run into a problem that I dont experience on mastodon or lemmy. I will follow a link and I will try and subscribe to that person from my peertube account and I wont be able to because whatever peertube instance im on doesnt federate.

I get not wanting to federate with every random server but I would have expected a decent network to have formed.

Maybe I have just been signing up to the wrong instances or am doing something wrong.

I have the same results, especially frustrating with tilvids. I have my own instance and I get not wanting to show up on all random instances in the world, but even if I subscribe to some specific chanel in tilvids, I only get updates for a short while and then never again.

Peertube.wtf has been my savior in all this. But my tiny instance federates. I agree its a bit frustrating sometimes.

I think that many do not federate because they don't want to deal with federation traffic + video traffic. Just FYI, my tiny raspberry pi equivalent server can keep up with both Noe for over a year ;)

Or they don't want others to know they have illegal content. I'm not 100% sure why.

Not a lot of instances wants to federate with everyone for multiple reasons.

The more you federate with, the higher the moderation and the more junk is going to be shown.

Since PeerTube doesn’t use any algorithms , it just shows whatever.
