Kinda wish my mom would have told me he knew I was always just a bit scared but now all those years of tiny doubt are lifted
Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

Whenever I lament the net dying due to the EU or whatever then I see any comment section on race and I really wonder if anything of value will be lost (apart from the vast on info).
the ability of usamericans to be so confident in completely wrong statements is something that psychologists will study for years

i had a two paragraph rant written with spite and vitriol before deciding not to post it and keep it in my notes app. ill save that for a fucking rainy day.

@FunkyStuff@hexbear.net Sorry I forgot to add recommendations in the last thread. I was kind of occupied with other stuff and forgot to reply.
Someone there recommended rohan, who I would say is pretty great at tackling lot of broader indian diaspora issues as well as history. He made a recent video on naxalism which I have yet to see but it probably is decent.
Anyways here I will try and put a decent list. I will try to add links if I can.
Ambedkar - annihilation of caste ; Very good primer on casteism and hinduism. Mainly goes into why gandhi is a piece of shit.
Ambedkar - castes in India ; Decent but small primer on casteism/brahmins
Sujatha Gidla - Ants among elephants ; Its a real account of the dalit author and her family in the backdrop of maoist armed struggle in the south india. Deals with patriarchy, casteism, major faults of communist movements not tackling caste, and police violence.
History of naxalbari movement by amar bhattacharya ; A lot of history and anecdotes surrounding the maoist/naxal movement. Beginning from majumdar trying to send a letter to mao, to like broader history of the movement across the nation.
The Indian big bourgeoisie by suniti kumar ghose ; Traces history of bourgeoisie in india since 1947.
Philosophical trends in feminism by anuradha ghandy ; Anuradha was an influential communist who was a part of adivasi revolutionary feminist organization and armed struggle.
Walking with comrades by arundathi roy - Its an account on India's long standing anti communist operations aided by the west on the naxals and the tribal regions in india.
I will also try and add some documentaries. I will link them if I can but they can be also found online too.
Also trigger warning, lot of these are real accounts of pogroms and genocidal violence/sexual violence committed by fascists.
Ram ke naam by anand patwardhan.
I remember a while back there was some bbc docu that got reactions from indian sangh and government that they banned it. A lot of online people were hailing bbc as some brave institution. All the while real documentaries made way back by Indian filmmakers which are banned in the country are paid no interest.
Anyway this is a documentary regarding hindu fascists and their rise. Specifically during 90s and their own march to rome incident leading upto a very massive pogrom targeting babri masjid. It can be found on youtube. Last I checked it was still there.
Final solution by Rakesh sharma. Its about genocidal pogroms carried out in gujarat in 2002. Very thorough look through the whole incident. Again trigger warning about genocidal pogroms and their harrowing details on sexual violence are described.
Vivek reason by anand patwardhan. A very bleak documentary about 2010s fascist prominence and their sprawling ability to carry out gladio operations and target leftist outspoken figures. Its also on youtube but I remember there were no subtitles early on and it was in 10 parts. But there was also compiled version with subs if i recall.
Grief stricken winds by arun annow. There are 2 parts and they are very thorough look at the tamil genocide conducted by sri lanka. Its a mirror to what is currently happening in gaza. Part one deals with the settler colonial project undertaken by the sri lanka's sinhala nationalists. Also its connections to israel and britain early and later into the genocide. It also deals with escalatory genocidal actions known as the black july and burning of one of the most iconic library with ancient historical text collections going back to 2nd century.
Part two goes into years forward into years during 9/11 and war on terror funding sri lanka's genocidal ambitions. And broadly touches on the civil war and genocide. All the tactics are even aided by british genocidaires who were active in the troubles and lot Israeli support. There's is also a lot India support along with china. But the specific warcrimes committed by india are supposedly in the upcoming part. There is a very 1:1 parallel to what's occurring in gaza.
It leaves me with a lot of rage when know nothing dumbasses dismiss these things as some impediment to their "precious leftist movement" or some sort of distraction. Or even lending credence to genocidal criminals cause they are nominally leftist.
Also watch these two parts on youtube or they are also on vimeo uncensored. But again, warning lot of graphic violent genocidal actions/sexual violence are talked and lot of evidence is provided from victims. There is also a channel 4 documentary from uk which documents a pot of these crimes. Cause like the idf these fascists also took a lot videos committing genocide. And I urge people to see and remember these crimes cause a lot of it goes unheard and dismissed outright.
I would also add the sri lanka's killing fields documentary (Tw; Genocide; pogroms;Sexual violence). This one is also very through. Check it out.
Sorry this is a long comment.
you ever see a meme online about "funny language miscommunication" or whatever and you look at the meme and you can 100% tell it was written by a white native english speaker

nothing is sacred anymore
Regarding the job I got a referral for, my referral told me that the hiring manager has been out, and that's why I haven't gotten a response. She doesn't know if he's sick or on vacation. She said she will inquire as soon as he returns. However, she noted that the job is still posted, so it's definitely not totally over, and that she will let me know of other positions.
Got me like:

I'm pretty sure I got the vegan bakery, but hopefully, something good comes about either way.
And with this shit happening(as well as the racist bozo still being here), I have made it a goal to set myself up for finding a new place to stay.
