Nothing to see here, just more straight up fascist stuff out of Texas.

Or what?

What actually, realistically, happens if they get in their car and leave?

[–] protist@mander.xyz 27 points 7 months ago

How can you get in your car and leave when you're locked in?

If the house voted on rules that allow for this escort crap, then the sergeant at arms can enforce it.

The Texas Constitution empowers the legislature to compel the attendance of its members using whatever means each chamber may enact in its own rules.

They'll get arrested. They have "active arrest warrants"

The Democrats had fled to blue states earlier this month after President Trump suggested the state should redraw its U.S. House district maps to secure more Republican seats.

I like how "the ruling party openly rigs the system" is only the side story.

Bumped up Texas on my "most likely states for the civil war to erupt from" list.

Why did the other democrats sign that permission slip?

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

To go home. They didn’t the best we can realistically expect. Now others need to step up.

Bullshit. What others? These are the people with the power. The Democrat's and their apologists still don't take what's happening seriously. Two weeks is a nice vacation, not a fucking exile in Syberia.

Well Newsome, for one. They brought attention to the issue and drew him in to the fight.

So, up until that moment, Newsom didn't know about Republican gerrymandering, or or hadn't occurred to him to fight it? You know something, I can almost believe that. The only part I won't believe is that Newsom is fighting them on principal instead of showboating for a 2028 run. The smart money says he folds just like the Texas Democrats.

This is so fucked up.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

why did they go back?

[–] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 2 points 7 months ago

There would be a huge pile of shit in the speakers chair when they came back.
