Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

I have come to the conclusion that Trump is actually an alien. He is helping to prepare our planet for the arrival of his species by ensuring CO2 levels quickly reach a more tolerable level. It's the only explanation that makes sense.

Honestly, I WOULD prefer him to be some kind of alien super agent. It is a lot less depressing than the alternative.

Simulation theory is my reasoning at this point. They're just throwing shit into the simulation now to see what happens. like a wealthy pedophile who can corrupt anything he touches and destroy people's lives as they cheer.

Don't look up, people.

It's standard procedure to deliberately deorbit satellites that are no longer in use, since the whole program was defunded.

It's not like they are doing this out of spite, they are just doing what they said they would do, which people voted for.

Crazy, but true.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think anyone voted for this, and certainly most people didn't vote for the administration in charge, so ...

People keep saying that most people didn't vote for this, but it's just disingenuous

2/3 of eligible americans did not vote against this. that's the stat that matters

Sorry Donnie, we're gonna need a really big missile in order to take that down, could you send us some cash to build it?

Distraction.
He's on the Epstein list and wants it to be buried under all his other bullshit.

Ah employing the same 500iq strategy as they did during Covid.. if no numbers are reported, then there must be no climate change!

The question is, will americans do something about there antichrist problem before he destroys the whole world, or will they just watch and complain only if they are personnally afected. The answer is within the question.

Thanks to all you "enlightened liberals" who refused to vote for Kamala. THIS IS YOUR FAULT. We'll bury you with the republicans

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Da fellow Amerikan it’s DEFINITELY not the fault of trumpers. That would make too much sense.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I'll never understand the whole assigning blame routine. Blame isn't a solution. It doesn't fix a damn thing to know whose fault it is. If you want to solve the problem, figuring out who to blame is nothing but a waste of time and energy.

That said, you're wrong. There's plenty of people and organizations to blame, from Rupert Murdock to the Heritage Foundation and beyond. Did refusing to vote for Harris help? Of course not. But this didn't fucking start with "enlightened liberals" (which is a complete useless term, btw; why the fuck is everyone got such a hard-on for calling people liberals, anyway?).

Besides, all your doing here is playing into the divisive rhetoric. Our only chance is solidarity amongst the working class, and this bullshit ain't helping. Well, no, I guess if I'm going to be honest here it does help the sociopathic oligarchs maintain control. So congratulations - you're fighting for the wrong fucking side.

Did the guilt of making the objectively wrong choice write this?
