Wow! This looks promising! Video from the article:
Wow.
I wonder what's the power draw?
And when they'll get color 😋
refresh rates up to 75 Hz and sub-100 ms latency.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but for that refresh rate it should have like 13ms frame time, but with 100ms this'll be a smeary mess
But completely usable to even scroll a document.
From human perception pov: the movement would be seen, the readability however would need to wait up to 0.1 seconds.
Sick! I'd love e-ink for my 2nd monitor. But I'll wait for 21inch for $200 in like 5 years
I really want to try e-ink, but why the hell are these damn things so expensive for such a low res/size?
Bad unit economics due to the relatively niche nature of e-ink monitors.
Naa I get it, not many want one...but the market size is also small because of the cost. Kinda one of those self killing loops.
e-Ink is receiving very high interest in commercial applications, such as price tags and billboards, due to lower running costs. If anything, market size is increasing rapidly, with the tech making it's way down to consumer grade stuff. For example, e-Ink tablets like Remarkable and Boox have improved dramatically in just the last few years.
Well that's good news then. Hopefully these will be larger and cheaper soon.
Looks nice! Now do color.
Color means lowering the resolution :(.
Hmm, I wonder what's the durability on such a speedy (& presumably intended for extremely heavy usage compared to eg an e-reader) thing.
