grok labubu sounds like something a star wars alien would say before getting shot

[–] WittyProfileName2@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

It sounds like something a Hollow Knight boss would yell before covering 75% of the screen in projectiles.

Grok labubu onani naka! flips switch that dumps a nerd into a pit

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Maybe I'm getting old but from the moment I saw that labubus were a thing I was disgusted. It's just naked consumerism and conspicuous consumption, for which I have no patience at all now.

They're just beanie babies/furbys again.

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And before that you had Hummels and other ceramic collectible dolls.

[–] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

And then there's Tulip Mania, of course. I'm starting to see a pattern here...

They're just funko pops all over again

How long have labubu's existed? I feel like I saw one years ago, maybe 5 or more, but now they're getting popular. Maybe i'm just misremembering or something.

EDIT: answered my own question, they've been around since 2015, so I'm not crazy

The soy right.

“Heckin’ Labubu baby Grok PWNS SJWs with AI-POWERED confirmation bias!”

i have never heard the word labubu, seen it written, or seen one of those things

is this it? is this the point where my hand has completely fallen off the arm of pop culture so i can no longer feel it's pulse?

a sad moment, made all the worse for being heralded by funko pops 2.0 deeper-sadness

[–] sudo_halt@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's just a doll lol

Don't make me air out the dirty laundry of our generations, you have a pet rock you need to attend to...

Apparently Russia is trying to ban these dolls because they’re “ugly” lol, but I think the real reason is to protect cheburashka from being eaten alive.

And they’re not entirely wrong because look at how cute these things are:

(And I honestly suspect the inspiration came from cheburashkas)

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

these things are literally worse funko pops. I wouldn't be surprised if they were literally re using funko pop material.

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Worse how? like in quality because I find that hard to believe. Its such a low bar

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I guess the false "variety" in having a billion funko pops vs these things that are essentially identical makes them seem even worse to me but theyre still essentially the same shitty plastic trash

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

I agree they’re the same level of garbage but personally funko is more grating for being nostalgia bait with the same quality as a happy meal toy. Lulu I see more on par with high fashion; some people out there might actually enjoy the aesthetics but 99% of people clamoring for the evil furry cabbage patch are doing so for the sake of the trend and brand.
