Could someone help me understand this part of purple?

Is "heart" there just cause someone might say "their heart played tricks on them" or some kind of figurative language along those lines? I never would have associated "heart" with tricks like I would the others. Am I missing something? Is there like a common expression or something I'm not familiar with?

They're very old fashioned these days, trick taking card games. When I was a kid, they'd put Hearts...puzzles in the newspaper, and ask what move should player X make in order to take the tricks with the information it gave you.
They were also mentioned a fair deal in Pride and Prejudice. People played them while chatting.

Winning a trick is like winning a round. Itβs just a card game term. I donβt think itβs so much old fashioned, more that card games are less popular.

I think of them as old fashioned because in my childhood people my grandmother's age played them, and she was born in like the 1910s.
They just are not a thing people younger than me seem to even know.
There use to be bridge clubs and such but just not a thing here anymore
Might jus be less popular in the anglosphere. We have a lot of games here where you collect Ε‘tihi (from german Stich) and everyone knows what is meant if you use the word.

Spades is still popular in some circles, I haven't played in a minute though. It's been even longer since I've played Skat.
I've seen bridge in papers but never hearts.
