all of social media that has significant financial backing is doing this via reddit's approach or by hiring iof as moderators.

It's a flaired users thread, the other comments are from non-flaired users and as such are invisible. A bunch of subreddits do flaired users only threads, it's pretty common when a post is contentious.

If they didn't do this, r/conservative would literally just be r/liberal.
