The user selects some text with the intent to ask ChatGPT about the text, the option to "ask ChatGPT" is missing. After they've completed their query, they select text within ChatGPT with the intent to copy it elsewhere. At that point, when it's useless, the option to "ask ChatGPT" is present. The meme is mocking Apple for this UX oversight with their own slogan.

It's something TO ask chatgpt VS something FROM chatgpt

They just want the ask chatgpt option everywhere

Took me rereading it 3 times to understand myself

Shouldn't it be, "Think differently." since it's an adjective?

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It should be, but they're thinking different

Technical explanation:

iOS apps cannot add systemwide actions in context menus, like for text selection. At best, they can create a sharing extension to have their app shown in the share sheet (page where you select who you send something to) and potentially add an action for easier discovery.

The only place they can add a systemwide actions is in their own app, hence why only the ChatGPT app has the Ask ChatGPT action.

I don't use ios. And I'm not that into my phone customization.

But the main reason I love using computers over phone is this. I don't use chatgpt either, but for things I do use, I can easily add options to run what I want (right click, shortcuts, custom scripts that can read selection/clipboard).

Why don't phones have something like that? Maybe an app you can install that can give you quick way to run small scripts systemwide. And you can just make things.

Also they're standing in your toilet. Silicon valley smells very normal.

And why can't they? That's an iOS design decision, as portraied in the post.

Or how about you think for yourself. Don’t plop your brain in a jar and outsource your own mental processes.
