Explanation: Gaius Trebonius was one of the assassins of Gaius Julius Caesar, of dictator and conqueror fame.

The thing is, while Caesar had assumed the dictatorship, he was also a genuinely popular lifelong partisan of the Populares, the champions of the poor against the ultrawealthy elite. When the ultrawealthy elite decided to murder Caesar, just like they had murdered numerous other Populare politicians in the past, including Populares who peacefully achieved high office, the people of Rome rioted, and the assassins of Caesar were forced to flee. They started a new civil war by marshalling their client connections in the east, hiring mercenaries and bribing soldiers - with some of the Legions the assassins claimed authority over being bribed 1,500 denarii per soldier - the equivalent of around seven years' pay.

They lost the ensuing civil war.

Yes but were they eventually swarmed and chopped into tiny little pieces?

Most of them were executed or committed suicide to avoid being executed.
