"can not last" and "use when available" are two very different things.

I doubt people felt they wouldn't "last" - as in survive - an hour without internet.

The annual Connected Lives survey from broadband and telecoms provider Pure Telecom also reveals that 40% of people would turn down €5m in cash if it meant they could never use the internet again.

Not sure how it is in Ireland (where the survey was held) but in Sweden you'll have a hard time accessing public services, banking, paying for parking and so on without internet. On the other hand I imagine you can go FIRE with the €5m invested in the stock market AND pay someone to handle internet activities for you.

Yeah, that's nuts. Most of my waking hours involve using the internet in some form, but for $5.8m I'd give up using it personally without hesitation.
