Now I'm curious what word(s) are between "the speed" and "lobsters die".

Maybe "that the", perhaps?

Do they have contrasting moderation styles? If not, this seems like they could benefit from consolidation.

Well there's 11 posts between them so there's not much moderation style to look at, but yeah they could probably be consolidated (the latter seems to have an active mod vs the ~~latter's~~ former's dormant mod, so maybe that's the better choice)
