The acting is fantastic and the environments are really well done. However, the writing is poor to say the least, and the intrigues is paperthin. What made me really lose interest is the "drive it to your throat" ability that is used as a standard solution to most problems. The movies is of a different quality, I'll stick to them.

Yep I gave up and went for day of the jackal which I'm fucking loving

I fin that quality and intensity and tone dips up and down, but I found it engaging and well written and acted. There is a lot of world building without exposition, but some is needed which makes some parts a bit janky. However, when that exposition is done, it picks up, I find.

I think that it does improve after ep1, but we still abandoned it after around 4 eps. There was still nothing compelling or that added to the overall Duniverse.

I only watched Dune once so I'm not into the Duniverse. Is it any good as a standalone show?

It works as a stand-alone show and you don’t need to have watched Dune and Dune 2, but it does help provide some context if you did. Some of the stuff in the show aren’t even referenced in the movies (yet, only in the books), so watching them won’t really help either.

As a Dune fan, I found it just alright/mid. Not great, but not too bad either. I agree with the other comment that it’s better binged, else it will feel dragging. Hopefully they improve for the next season.

It's because they used the prequel bullshit by Kevin J. Anderson as a basis. He is a shit writer.

I would much rather see a God Emperor series. There is so much you could do with that.

Yep think I'll dip out and give it a go next season they may have ironed out the creases

Slightly better, but not significantly, and it dips in parts.

Honestly give it a miss, if s2 is much better then consider going back.

Good advice! Will abandon till s2 thanks

It might be better as a binge rather than watching it week-to-week like I did. Overall I felt that not enough was done with the vast opportunities the IP provided, and it seemed a lot of money was spent on a less-than-compelling season of “prestige” tv.

But they got renewed for a second season, so I am probably an outlier.

It was the opposite for me, the first episode or so grabbed me... but then it's just fine.

By the end I didn't hate it, I'll probably watch season 2, but if it gets cancelled I won't be surprised or that sad.
