Canada needs to get on this as well. Let’s make America have a real national emergency with no intellect left.

I mean, they’ve already wiped out any intelligence in the White House itself. Let’s remove the real intelligence and get them out of the U.S.

Fuck Trumps Fascist America.

For guidance see movie Idiocracy..

Unfortunately, Canada barely pays its own scientists. Science here is not a priority and it sucks

those lucky to get a professorship a uNi already done that, but faculty positions are quite competitive, as they are very small pool in general. even my non-prestigious state school, the positions to be bio-professor or adjunt is extremely fierce(like 10years ago). its because the tenures arnt leaving til they croak, also the Uni being stingy in not hiring them. alot of phd thinks faculty is thier career. does canada have industry for researchers, bio, engineering.

It would be great to grant people with educated backgrounds into Canada. That’s immigration I can get behind.

Want to become the modern nazi party ... then suffer from brain drain exactly like the old one did.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 38 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I’m something of a scientist myself…

For 500 million I'll be whatever it takes. Almost. I can't, in good conscience, be a unicorn.

If you can’t grow your own horn, store bought will do just fine.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've got 1 horn ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago

For me? Thanks!

dont even need 500mil, trump's anti-science , anti-intellectuals gop is enough to scare them to other western countries. coupled by the fact its hard enough getting jobs with said phd.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Today is my last day here. Another country decided they liked me enough to sponsor me.

Hey, shhhh. Don't turn your nose up at relocation assistance.

European researchers: Am I a joke to you?

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 14 points 4 days ago (2 children)

As someone thinking of doing a PhD, I want those dirty foreigners and their ivy league diplomas out! They are stealing my jobs!

[–] andresil@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Honestly this whole thing is disgusting to me in a way. As if current European researchers couldn't do just as good as the US if given the same levels of funding. This is almost certainly a case of "let's flood the job market and lower how much we have to pay researchers"

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

people moved to US, to get a better income. now even that is threatened, so they probably will take a pay cut in the EU just to be safe from the GOP.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jokes aside, I think it is more that they want to attract the really good people. There already is a complete power imbalance in many science fields, and in applied fields, they will still have to compete with industry jobs.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

yea, i think its too heavily geared towards scientists only, and not the technicians, bs holders, MS holders who are doing the majority of the lab work anyways. I dont know if thats what you meant.

but its like that in the states, also i believe its very gatekept because they dont want to hire to many people in research areas otherwise scientist might lowers thier already stingy income. so if you look at job listing you can see that they purposely add many skills or years to discourage people from applying, of course they are also ignoring applications too.

certain parts of health maybe slightly better, like nursing, CLS(although its pretty competitive to even get into the grad program). cant say the same for MED schools though.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

its pretty hard to get a job, even if nobody is stealing jobs in stem. Its the employers that are doing that, trying to hire as little as possible.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago

I paid my own way.

Anything to get away from the rampaging, methed-up rednecks destroying everything in their wake.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Can we pretend computer science is a real science?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i heard just as many complaints from CS posts on different forums as bio stem people having difficulties in finding jobs.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.funami.tech 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Doesn't help that modern-day CS curricula don't really teach you how to develop. They churn out developers who know what a red-black tree is, but not how to set up a .gitignore.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

no experience outside of the courses, that make sense much like biotech. my bro had tget certification and get skills outside any schooling. except labs you cant really do that unless your a student for research, and if there is space in a limited lab setting.
